Back in high school, I saw sickening footage of USoCal's All-American goons, the McKeever twins (https://www.si.com/vault/1959/11/16/601092/lay-those-elbows-down-mike).
As a saving grace, Mike McKeever's son (Barry McKeever) chose Stanford over U$C and was a pretty good linebacker in the mid-80s until injuries slowed him down. I believe Barry was still an infant when his father was involved in the auto accident that eventually claimed his life (after being in a coma for almost two years).

You're right. And Mike McKeever retired early from USC's team because of head trauma. To his credit, after his football career, he was heavily involved with the United Way, City of Hope and Big Brothers.
Barry McKeever and Jennifer Hill of Stanford successfully sued the NCAA to avoid drug testing.

Oregon and UCLA tied up at 14 at start of 3rd.

ASU is destoying Utah. Not a good omen for the Toejams, who barely beat UT at home.

Thanks ESPN for the app. I'm stuck in a backroom at Central City Comic Con dressed as Kylo Ren waiting to battle Jedi in training by Rey and Sabine Wren.

Now y'all know why I wasn't celebrating too wildly when Stanford beat Utah. They aren't and never should have been a Top 25 team, as they are about to lose their 3rd in a row. Stanford should have beaten them more soundly than 23-20.
The big takeaway for me here is USC played an inspired game against Stanford that it hasn't played against anyone else, and they aren't very much better than anyone else in the Pac-12, especially now since they have lost so many DL.

OF, you have to know that scores aren't transitive. If they were, Utah wins against ASU. Also, looking at last weeks result, you would have to say UW wasn't a top 25 team either. I think you are correct about Utah, but this week is not what proves it.

I think you are correct here also, but I also think that the injury factor on both sides of the ball is the biggest effect. It is a different team out there now than the one we played. USC as now constituted can play inspired ball and still get beat. That wasn't true in game 2.

UCLA blew it open and leads 31-14 with 5:50 remaining.

Meanwhile, Central Florida beat Navy this afternoon to raise their record to 6-0. They look like the strongest non-power 5 FBS team at the moment and Scott Frost has become one of the hottest names in coaching circles, heavily linked to the sure-to-be-open-soon Nebraska job although he may aim higher. UCF's offensive co-ordinator is Troy Walters, one of the greatest Stanford players of all time. Surely as UCF and Frost's stars continue to rise his name will also become more prominent in coaching circles. Good to see success for a good guy.

Second play from scrimmage: 69 yard TD for Barkley (off of a direct snap).
Update: next series, Barkley 15 yard TD. 3-89, 2 TD in the first five minutes.

Was Love over a hundred in the first five minutes last week? Barkley still lags behind Bryce.

Yes, but he's a great runner. N.D. will gash Stanford at will on the ground. Best case scenario is a shootout.
