Re: Saturday other games - Phogge - 10-28-2017

Northwestern wins in triple OT by an EZ pick. Both QB's over 400 yes.

Re: Saturday other games - French Rage - 10-28-2017

ISU beats TCU.  Big12 now has no undefeated teams.  That and the fact it's the Big12 is good for us.

Re: Saturday other games - BostonCard - 10-28-2017

Not sure how it is “good for us”.  We wouldn’t get picked over a 1-loss team from the Big12, even if we go undefeated the rest of the way.

To have two losses a team must first have 1 loss. Also, it's kinda looking like ISU is the best team in the Big 12, which is both hilarious and convenient because they already have two losses.

Re: Saturday other games - BostonCard - 10-28-2017

Oregon up on Utah 20-13 in the third quarter.

Re: Saturday other games - OutsiderFan - 10-28-2017

It's so preposterous for the Big 12 to have a championship game pitting #1 vs. #2.  They have a whole freaking regular season, where all teams play each other in a round robin, to decide who is #1. Despite this, they are going to try to claim #1 isn't the champion until they have another game?  This is absurd.  No reason to play another game to decide the champion.

Re: Saturday other games - BostonCard - 10-28-2017

Well, sure, but we also have to sweep WSU, UW, and and Notre Dame, plus not suffer a letdown against Cal.  Against that schedule, 2-2 is achievable, 3-1 is unlikely, and 4-0 would be pretty unbelievable.  I’m not making any plans.

I mean I would argue the Big12 is crap and a 2-loss Pac 12 champ should be seen as better than a 1-loss Big12 "champ", but clearly I was overruled two years ago.  But yes, more upsets in other conferences is what we should be rooting for.  (Dammit UNC.)

Re: Saturday other games - BostonCard - 10-28-2017

Guess we are rooting for Texas Texh (up 6-0 on Oklahoma).  Also, this might have H-award implications.

Well, sure, plus we don't look like a playoff team anyway. But to the extent you hold out hope for us making the playoff, some other conference champion looking worse than us is necessary.

Re: Saturday other games - OutsiderFan - 10-28-2017

Remember when I took holy hell from this board for saying Utah was no big deal of a win?

Well, Oregon 41 Utah 20.

After going 4-0 and getting really lucky to beat Arizona in their last win of the season:

Stanford - L
@ U$C - L
ASU - L
@ Oregon -L

If it were a championship caliber team, Stanford would have beat Utah by much more than 3 pts, and Oregon State by much more than 1pt.

Don't be surprised if Utah ends on a 8 game losing streak and finishes 4-8.

Re: Saturday other games - washingtonismoney - 10-28-2017

OK, if Utah is no big deal of a win because it's 21 points worse than Oregon, doesn't that make Stanford's stomping of Oregon super impressive? One win or the other must be impressive.

Sadly, no, because both Utah and Oregon are bad. However, I wouldn't say it was necessarily true that Utah was this bad when we beat them. One could also argue that our victory completely destroyed them  :). There may be some truth to that, as they seem to play worse each week.

Re: Saturday other games - OutsiderFan - 10-28-2017

My only point is Utah stinks.

But to address yours, WIM, I think it's obvious Stanford is a totally different team at home vs. on the road this season.  But I do believe if Oregon had Herbert, Stanford would have been hard-pressed to beat Oregon.

Re: Saturday other games - ChicagoCard - 10-28-2017

So what are Stanford fans' rooting interests with respect to WSU-AZ? What result would most likely mean a day game...

Re: Saturday other games - gocard14 - 10-28-2017

Agreed with WiM. You just can’t apply transitivity in college football as the logic starts to break down real fast. Utah is a team that generally is well coached, excels at stopping the run, and has a tough stadium to play at. They may not be very good this year, largely due to poor QB play, but that is still a good win.

Likewise, the ASU and Oregon wins, largely overlooked as wins against bad teams, are actually looking much better in hindsight. Without an elite team in the pac 12 left, likely partially due to big injury impacts to UW and USC combined with last years talent drain from UW to the NFL, we are left with a lot of average to good teams. Most of whom can beat any other team on a given night. I’ll take any wins we can get and be happy.

We want Arizona to win. At this point goal 1, 2, and 3, is to win the pac 12 north, get to the championship game, and have a shot to win the conference. To that end, any loss by UW or WSU increases the odds that we can stumble once and still make it.

Re: Saturday other games - ChicagoCard - 10-28-2017

How does that punt get fielded like that...

Would be fun to have a rematch with a team from Iowa in a bowl game. CMac could be an honorary captain (assuming it's not the Sun Bowl)  :)
