Re: MBB vs Pacific - washingtonismoney - 11-12-2017

Frustrating second half, as Pacific has narrowed the lead to 13. The sloppiness that overwhelmed the team in the very beginning of the game has surged back in the second half; the team just looks like it forgot how to play basketball. Very disappointing after a fun first half.

Within seven. A bizarre collapse.

Pacific switched to a zone defense and it totally flustered us.

Nice that we clung on.  Getting flummoxed by the zone gave me bad memories of WBB from a couple of years ago.

Yeah, was very strange and disappointing to see. Hoping they regroup and learn.

Re: MBB vs Pacific - TreesAndBirds - 11-12-2017

From ESPN

"Freshman Kezie Okpala remains unavailable for the Cardinal as he continues to work toward completing schoolwork from high school."

Not sure what it means but seems KO might be available before too long.

A couple notes:

- GREAT free throw shooting. I think we only missed 4, and shot more than 30.
- BAD 3pt shooting. White 1 for 6, Pickens 2 for 8.
- Pugh came up lame after it looked like he tweaked his ankle. It doesn't seem major.
- Our freshmen looked exactly how I would expect talented but inexperienced freshmen to look. I'm excited for them to develop.

The 3pt shooting was bad in terms of results but I didn’t see a lot of bad shots per se — most of them looked reasonable. They just didn’t go down. So I didn’t find that concerning as a long-term trend.

For me turnovers have to decrease quite a bit and defense has to get sharper in all aspects.

We'll find out soon enough. We have 3 games in the next week, starting tomorrow against Eastern Washington, one on Friday against Northeastern and a visit by the defending national champions UNC to cap it all off next Monday before the Portland tournament against a top 10 team in Florida.

Re: MBB vs Pacific - burger - 11-13-2017

The collapse against the zone was frustrating, but I'm still pleased overall with the way the team has looked.  With 3 freshman (and fingers crossed a 4th soon) in heavy rotation, we should expect some hiccups like yesterday.  But I think we'll be a better team by mid-season than we are now--assuming injuries don't take too much of a toll (fingers crossed again).
