Mick,
What’s wrong with the Alamo Bowl (besides what happened last time)?

I think Stanford has a good team and I’d like the best possible bowl and opponent.

Candidly, for me it's about the whole experience.  If I'm going to take off time from work and spend a fair amount of money, I want to see Stanford play and preferably win, I want it to be in a great venue and beautiful city and if possible, I want friends and family around.  I wouldn't even mind getting some work in.  I can do all of those things in San Diego.  In San Antonio, I can see the game.

San Antonio has the Alamo, the Riverwalk is great, and some of the best BBQ on the planet. It's not San Diego, but I wouldn't totally write it off.

Re: Bowl Destination and Opponent - hayaka - 12-02-2017

Stanford already played a game in San Diego this year. That may affect the Holiday Bowl's decision. Although I'm sure they don't want Wash. State again.

I think the only thing for certain is that Stanford won't play in the Sun Bowl again this year.

Re: Bowl Destination and Opponent - BostonCard - 12-02-2017

We are not going below the holiday.

It's not that I'm writing it off.  It's an investment for me.  No friends, no family, we don't have an office there and it's on television.  Besides, why would I want to be in cozy, warm, 65 degree San Antonio when I could enjoy frigid, god-forsaken, 14 degree-with-wind-chill Detroit, Michigan?

Re: Bowl Destination and Opponent - winflop - 12-03-2017

I'll be stunned if it's the Amazing Chicken Bowl. Apparently there's a decent chance Washington gets into the Top 11 and gets an NY6 berth. I still think Alamo Bowl takes WSU over Stanford but you never know

For our honeymoon, my wife and I drove from Long Beach to New Orleans, and on the way back we stopped in San Antonio. I don't really remember much of anything from the Alamo, because the two of us spent the whole time giggling while daring each other to ask a docent where the basement was. Neither of us took the dare. Still one of my bigger regrets. Because, you know, what if there really IS a basement at the Alamo and we missed it?

Alamo Bowl - lex24 - 12-03-2017

I realize many of you don’t like the destination. But I love the matchup. Beating the big 12 runner up would be terrific.

Re: Bowl Destination and Opponent - Spiny_Norman - 12-03-2017

From Stewart Mandel, "One ripple effect of Wisconsin getting Orange Bowl is ACC gets Big Ten's Citrus Bowl berth. Notre Dame will go there. Every other Big Ten bowl team moves down a rung."  So may not be Iowa in the Holiday Bowl.

Re: Bowl Destination and Opponent - Spiny_Norman - 12-03-2017

With Washington ranked 11th, they will play in a NY6 game.  Which moves up all of the other P12 teams.  Stanford likely now to get Alamo Bowl.

Yeah, it's the Alamo Bowl: https://twitter.com/Brett_McMurphy/status/937404943123795976

Very good matchup.

Re: Bowl Destination and Opponent - magnus - 12-03-2017

Stubhub already has that match-up and many more (all?) listed.

I think we'll be a substantial dog, but I guess we'll have a bunch of guys back from injury, which will help.
