Honestly I felt we were playing with house money for the second half of the season, so it doesn't hurt as much.  I mean, yeah it sucks it was to USC, but it was also a fun and competitive enough game that the taste isn't that bad.

Re: This one hurts more - washingtonismoney - 12-02-2017

This one doesn’t bug me as much because the team played basically to the top of its capabilities. And they made it an entertaining game. That’s mostly just fun.

Ah, so I was not the only person who saw this at the time.  I feel a little better knowing that my frustration was not in isolation!

The game was karmic payback for the miraculous Oregon State victory.

Re: This one hurts more - Phogge - 12-02-2017

Sure they had a chance but the team with the superior athletes won and Stanford is who they is, win or lose. It was entertaining to a point because we had a rooting interest. The game today between Memphis and UCF was far more entertaining however while the SEC game was a snooze.

Re: This one hurts more - lex24 - 12-02-2017

I’m not complainting about the year  I think overall it was another excellent season. When it comes down to it maybe I’m still carrying Ron Ayala scars.

But perhaps I’m growing up a bit. I cried after Ayala. I did not last night. Of course I pooch punted the cat.  But that’s to be expected.

There’s no substitute for speed and if we don’t have it in our 2-deep we sure don’t have it on our scout team. It’s not like we practice against that level of athleticism during the week. And if Bryce only gets 5 reps all week you can bet no one is allowed to touch him.

As fast as Bryce is, I saw the Georgia highlights earlier and the Clemson backfield right now and those backs are every bit as fast.

Ahh yeah, maybe.  But to be so close to winning -- multiple times -- and to not get there...

Re: This one hurts more - CowboyIndian - 12-02-2017

Christ, you guys....we came within 3 points, a blown block and/or a blown call of beating the Toejams and winning the P12. It wasn't that bad and sometimes the breaks go the other way.

Silly I know.  It’s a game .  And I’m just a fan.

Not silly at all. This one is leaving a very bitter taste in my mouth that will linger for some time. This was a very winnable game that I think we lost for reasons I have stated elsewhere - first and foremost the Pac-12

Our viewing party was one extended ragging session on the officiating that climaxed on this play... :'(

Re: This one hurts more - lex24 - 12-02-2017

True. Already looking forward to Stanford beating them next year

A very poorly officiated game. One thing - had the whistle not blown SC had defenders around that may have stopped the progress

Re: There's got to be a morning after... - RedShift - 12-02-2017

I was watching Stanford fans filing out in front of me late in the fourth quarter with Stanford down 10 points with 5 minutes left. That made me wonder, while sitting in the light rail on my way back home, about the number of games in the HarShaw era where Stanford were been down 2 scores with last half of the fourth quarter left (i.e., 7-8 minutes left in the game) and came back to win. I could think of just one game. Folks on this board may recall more.

Re: There's got to be a morning after... - Snorlax94 - 12-02-2017

Well it’s not in this era but I was at Big Game 1990 and it was definitely worth sticking around for.

Well, technically part of the Shaw era because Frosh receiver David Shaw was on the team.  ;D

Fiesta Bowl? Alamo? Holiday? Of those three, I may actually go to the Holiday. I loathe losing to the Literature's Most Famous Losers, and winning the P12 would have been nice, but I think we were lucky to even be there. I've put this loss out of my mind quicker than the OSU "win".

Agree with those sentiments. Hate losing to U$C, but it would have meant a lot more if the Rose Bowl or the CFP were on the line. Also, you're right. We were a bit lucky to be there in the first place.

Re: There's got to be a morning after... - StanfordBB - 12-03-2017

did I miss it or has anyone mentioned our "Delay of Game" penalty at the 1-2 tard line. I think that was the difference

Re: There's got to be a morning after... - winflop - 12-03-2017

The delay penalty was bad, but Scarlett did actually score and the Pac-12 refs screwed us badly.
