We couldn't offer better than $700K (+ housing package, tax adjustments) at a freeze-yer-keester school for one of our own, with Walters record?
I don't believe it. It can't be the money. Let's face it, for recruitment Nebraska ain't what it used to be.Â
Stanford is the better recruiting platform now.Â
So, Shaw just does not want to give up play calling, and that is that. BAD MISS.Â

Yeah, that's clearly the

Ive heard there isnt a ton of love there. But I cant understand why Fitzgerald would think Shaw would hire someone who runs an uptempo spread. Simply not going to happen.

Why is it a bad miss? Is there any evidence Stanford could transition to an uptempo spread? Coaches that shift their offensive philosophy after recruiting to that philosophy generally do so because they are one step from the door. Mora was an exception. And it didnt work well for him.

I'm a little surprised he's staying to coach in the Alamo Bowl. His attention and time are at the least divided between Palo Alto and Houston.

Couldn't Bloomgren himself made a condition of his hire that he gets to coach his old team for the Alamo Bowl? I'd say it would speak to his loyalty to his players for anyone watching.

Walters would've been cool. But there are several nice options out there. If Shaw wants to continue in roughly the same direction as the team has been going before, that's cool too. Believe it or don't, Stanford has a pretty good offense during Shaw's tenure. It could use some tweaks, but that makes improvement tricky. Sometimes the organ recipient rejects the transplant.

While Walters would have been cool, his style is not the right fit. Happy with someone that runs a pro-style, heavy package that is creative enough not to run between the tackles four plays in a row.

There's a coaches' conference that takes place after the bowls. I don't expect a hire until after that.

I think there are a few internal dominoes here. And I think Tavita might end up at the center of a few scenarios.
Would Shaw really relinquish play calling and playbook decisions to someone else? It seems to me that is the key question here. Hes pretty much evaded any transparency with the Shawvitagren structure - why would he want to change that now? When I think about it, its not really clear what Shaw thinks the OC job responsibilities and accountabilities should be.
Would a new OC from outside want input as to the position coaches?
Wouldnt a prospective new OL coach from outside first want to know who the OC was?
Dont position coaches pretty much report to the coordinators? Would Gould and the other current O position coaches accept reporting to Tavita?
If Tavita stays and is not promoted, would he be content?

This exceprt from Fitzgerald's article about Bloomgren coaching through the bowl game may indicate that if OC comes from within, it will be current TE coach Morgan Turner:
"He [Bloomgren] said tight ends coach Morgan Turner would take on a bigger role in game planning and practice preparations."

I'm guessing this means that Turner will help coach the OL while Bloomgren is attending to Rice business. It seems to me the TE coach probably is the most appropriate person to be involved in blocking schemes for the OL.
I am not ready to assume this means that Turner is the heir apparent for offensive coordinator.
