I was duped by a fake Adam Schefter account? LOL  I guess my next question is why would there be a fake Adam Schefter account?

Speaking of parody twitter accounts, one of my favorites is faux Pelini (@fauxpelini).

For example, this gem:

Not sports related, but I also like DPRK News Service (@DPRK_News) (with occasional sports references, such as this one):

Re: Richard Sherman - DC 86 - 03-08-2018

Sherman and Bryant are both going to be released. There is no basis for a trade because the impetus for their releases is that their contracts outweigh their production at this point, so it's very unlikely that a team would trade for either player.

No doubt - I love Sherman and he has had a great career and will be a hall for famer some day, but I was referring to present/future performance, which is not in line with his current contract, hence his probable release. Not to mention the uncertainty associated with returning form an achilles injury.

Re: Richard Sherman - BostonCard - 03-09-2018

Sherman was told he woul be released.

Re: Richard Sherman - OutsiderFan - 03-09-2018

When will Sherman be able to workout for teams?  He won't be signed until that happens.

Re: Richard Sherman - JJJ - 03-09-2018

Another article confirming much of the same from Shutdown Corner:

Quote:Sherman was entering the final season of a four-year, $56 million deal. He had a base salary of $11 million due, will turn 30 years old on March 30, and is coming off a torn Achilles. While it’s sad for Seahawks fans to see Sherman go, it’s not a brobdingnagian surprise either.

Re: Richard Sherman - martyup - 03-09-2018

Is he guaranteed the $11 million?

Re: Richard Sherman - lex24 - 03-09-2018

Sherman released. Not surprising he was owed 13 million coming off an Achilles.

He is not.

Re: Richard Sherman - needle - 03-09-2018

Tough road for CBs to make the HOF. Sherman far from a lock as of now. But the Super Bowl ring helps a lot.

Unlike baseball and basketball and hockey, football salaries are never guaranteed. That's why they have signing bonuses.

For those wondering about Sherman's recovery timeline:

Seems he probably won't be ready to workout for teams until June or July.

Re: Richard Sherman - Phogge - 03-10-2018

Richard Lane?

Maybe his parents called him that.

Will always be Night Train.

If Sherman's achilles injury compromises him to the point that he doesn't even approach his previous level of performance then the HoF will be tough since longevity is a major factor, but his career to date certainly is HoF caliber. He has been first team all-NFL three times. Compare to the pure cornerbacks currently in the hall:

Herb Adderley (4x)
Lem Barney (2x)
Mel Blount (2x)
Willie Brown (5x)
Jack Butler (4x)
Darrell Green (1x)
Mike Haynes (2x)
Jimmy Johnson (4x)
Night Train Lane (3x)
Dick LeBeau (0x)
Deion Sanders (6x)
Emmitt Thomas (1x)
Roger Wehrli (3x)
Aeneas Williams (3x)

Ty Law (2x) and Everyone Walls (3x) were HoF finalists this year. Champ Bailey (3x), Ronde Barber (3x) and Darrelle Revis (4x) will likely be finalists in the near future. Extending his career and playing at a reasonably high level will definitely be necessary for induction, but Sherman's career to date stacks up very well with HoF cornerbacks in terms of peak performance.

Meanwhile, Sherman is meeting with the 49ers today (Saturday).

Re: Richard Sherman - washingtonismoney - 03-10-2018

I've always felt, as a tiebreaker, that players who subjectively defined an era in their sports should be let in to the hall of fame. (It's hall of *fame* for a reason, IMO.) Sherman is such a notable personality that I feel it would be cheating posterity not to let him in, even if he accomplishes little of note in the future.

Re: Richard Sherman - yvonne - 03-10-2018

He's meeting with the 49ers today. According to the article, "The 49ers want to make sure Sherman is healing from his injuries, and if both sides are pleased with the meeting, they will try to get a contract done, sources told [ESPN's Adam] Schefter."

Shanahan had dinner with him and his wife last night in Los Gatos.
