Well, that too of course. But, the NCAA vacated ND’s wins that season because one the trainers was writing papers for the players.

My recollection is that an NCAA decision vacating a wrongdoer's wins does not vacate its opponents' losses.

So, I think we still have that loss to ND on our record.

How about this? ND has only one win against Stanford over the last nine years.

I guess the real question is, why on Earth is ND scheduling Stanford anymore?!  We booted them from the CFP in 2015, and we've basically had their number for the last decade.  They usually have a hard enough schedule as it is.  They're a big money draw for us, but the converse isn't true for them...

There's always the "end the year in California" thing, but they can get that with whoever. I think the real reason is that they get to pretend that they're our peer institution. I loved this from yesterday's "Why Your Team Sucks":

I've said this for many years.  As soon as ND starts believing that we are their equal or better in football, they will drop us for a less competitive team.  Their history with USC is extensive so I think they will keep them on the schedule but I am sure they would prefer to have the other West Coast team be an easier team to beat than us.  I think that they have so much over confidence in their program and keep expecting us to revert to the mean so it will be a few years before they really get sick of losing more games than they win and drop us.

I think ND schedules Stanford because of academics. ND respects Stanford.  ND wants to be a serious academic institution. It competes against Stanford recruiting wise. So I think ND gets every bit if not more out of the relationship.

I thought the list was of (currently) overrated teams whose reputation is unduly influenced by their national following.  The Yankees have had one World Series title since 2000; the Cowboys haven't won the Super Bowl since 1996; UDFG's last national championship was in 1988, and even Tiger's last major was in 2008.  Despite this, they each get a disproportionate amount of coverage and fan rooting, and are frequently overranked. In contrast, the All Blacks are the two-time defending Rugby World Cup champions, and their three titles are the most of any team (they also won in the inaugural tournament 1987), and are the currently the #1 ranked rugby team.
