Cheers, BobK,
Tough injury news for Oregon's Nyara Sabally. Will be interesting to see how that plays out with their player rotation and depth/development
SR F Oti Gildon has been an underutilized but valuable sub the last couple of years, and all-everything Notre Dame transfer F Erin Boley is coming off her mandatory redshirt, so they should pick up a lot of the minutes that went to McGuire and Lexie Bando last year, and may have been targeted for Sabally Jr in 2018-19. Also, 6-6 C/F Lydia Giomi, who's been dogged by injuries her first two years in Eugene, may see an uptick in her very limited minutes in the front court.
Ionescu's ability to slide between guard & forward roles may also allow the two young guards (Morgan Yaeger & Taylor Chavez) to bolster their development by getting a nice dose of quality playing time surrounded by experience players.
All that said, their safety margin for injuries is clearly reduced, and will be worth watching.

They have some superb players, but only 9 on the roster leaves them vulnerable to a team like Arizona State that does hockey-line changes and tries to wear a team down.
Also fortunate for us that we play the Oregon schools only once this year and only at home. About time we get a scheduling break.
As for Colorado, I do hate JR Payne's defensive style. It seems as if every other Pac12 team is improving its talent level. Let's hope we are improving more.

The last couple years Graves has seemed to prefer only going 7-8 deep regardless of opponents' moves. He's generally pretty savvy about that, rotating players and being mindful of timeouts. However, I think that may be a contributing factor in the large number of recent departures in search of playing time.
Yes, a high tempo game without a surfeit of TV time outs may extend them, but to me, injuries are their greatest potential liability, and could have a major impact late in the season.

I do think they lost more than we did, but they continue to have a lot of talent that should develop and improve as do we. I like our coaching better than their coaching, so I'm pretty confident we can take them this year. We were 1/1 against them last year and the two games were very different. But I will take Smith and Williams over Drummer and Burke.

Thanks Bob. With Forbes and Caldwell coming in it seems Cal will be as dangerous as ever. And considering that they beat us once last year, that is not reassuring. The deserve their #4 coaches ranking, I think.

Thanks Bob! On the same site, there's a great video of rising senior Alexa Romano's time on a dig site in Peru this summer. Really reminds you how Stanford emphasizes the
student part of the student-athlete.
