Stanford Women's Volleyball is on ?. Second straight win over Texas, fourth consecutive win over a top-5 team, and they've lost two sets over the four games.

I'll be interested in Viking Guy's analysis of this game. I watched it but I am far from an expert.
Stanford was sluggish for 15 minutes, then dominated shots-on-goal the rest of the way. A great goal by Sophia Smith splitting defenders gave us a 1-0 lead at 42, but we missed some golden opportunities to go up 2-0 and Santa Clara tied it on a rebound off a penalty kick at 66. I'm so ignorant I didn't even know the ball remained in play after a penalty kick--I assumed it was like those kicks at the end of a tournament game.
It was very frustrating that at the very end of the second overtime we had the ball flopping around within a few feet of the Santa Clara goal and could not put it in.
The Santa Clara keeper seemed very good with a whopping 14 saves. She needed to be since we outshot them 28-10.
I do like soccer, but games like this remind me why watching can be so frustrating. It seemed clear to me that we played better for most of the game, but superior play is not always reflected in the score.
By the way, Sophia Smith is a true freshman who has yet to attend a class, and she already is beginning to look like the next superstar. A wonder to behold, and playing her along with Macario--wow.

First game we haven't won in 29 games--over a year.

On to golf -
After a great Summer, Wu and Salinda didn't do anything special at the first tournament for this season. I would have expected the team to have played a bit better. Most teams were over par so the course and/or weather conditions might have contributed to the higher scores.
Women are starting the year today at the Annika Invitational. I see Valenzuela is not playing. Is she hurt, or off playing internationally? Seems she should have been in the top 5 and would have made the trip?

Valenzuela played in the Evian Championship in France last week. She did not make the cut. But Coach Walker probably had to commit to a team of 5 for the Annika tournament before she knew whether Valenzuela would be available.
