I wouldn't complain if they did, but the Cougs aren't going to lose twice more. You can take that to the bank.
I'm hoping Wazzu loses at Colorado and vs. the Eskimo Dogs. We win out and get another shot at Utah.

You better hope Gardner Minshew misses the bus to the game on those days then.
Seriously, hope you are right. In the world of college football, just about anything can happen.

I’ll take any losses by Wazzu! But if we’re hoping and dreaming, start by hoping Cal beats them on Sat.
1) Last season, they beat an 8th-ranked, 6-0 Wazzu team 37-3 in a shocker.
2) Defense travels. Cal is particularly good against the pass.
3) The forecast calls for rain showers.
4) Patrick Laird.
5) If Cal and Stanford win their next 2 games (admittedly unlikely in Cal’s case), Big Game will be even more important, if that’s possible.
6) Colorado is in the South. If we end up in a 3-way tie, Wazzu losing to them doesn’t help as much as their losing to Cal.
7) Colorado is fading big-time and just lost to Oregon State at home. This is perhaps the best reason not to pin your hopes to the Buffaloes.
I don’t relish rooting for Cal, but you do what you gotta do.

The forecast for Seattle also calls for showers and temps from 48-55. I don't like the sound of that. Maybe similar to Pullman last season but without the wind...

Mike Leach's best team ever lost by 40+ points. Still hoping Stanford can run the table from here.

So, are the odds of WSU winning out and going to the BCS lower than the odds of them losing twice more?
I take it from the posts above that absolutely nobody thinks that it is possible that a 1 loss Pac 12 champion would make the BCS. Because if WSU did, then there might be other pathways for us to get to the Rose Bowl, probably involving Utah losing another game and us winning out.

Depends on who that one loss team is, who they lost to, and who they played both in and especially out of conference.
WSU lost to U$C who does not look very strong, played 3
creampuff OOC games, and does not play Utah unless they make the CCG. Not likely.
When Stanford was 4-1 it was a different story. The loss was to undefeated UFDG, SDSU was a decent OOC game (better than any of WSU's opponents), and they would have beaten Utah to remain a 1-loss team (maybe twice)
At this
point I don't think there's a snowball's chance in Hell of any Pac-12 team making the playoff

WSU is currently 10th in the playoff rankings. So, they basically need to win out and hope that 6 teams ahead of them lose.

All true. However, it is not impossible that 6 of the teams ahead of them lose. It is also possible that winning a conference title may give WSU the nod over a team with one loss and no conference title. WSU really needs ND to get beat. If they don't, WSU is toast. While there may be some chaos in the B1G and/or the Big-12, there is no way that both of them have a two loss champion. A one-loss WSU that plays a conference championship game and wins it has a good argument against a ND team with one loss who will have played nobody, since USC and Stanford no deliver no style points. WSU will have had an easy schedule, but so has ND. The extra game may be the lever. It is a very long shot however.

So far this season, WSU has played...
@ Wyoming (3-6) W
vs SJSU (1-7) w
vs Eastern Washington (FCS) W
@ U$C (4-4) L
vs Utah (6-2) W
@ OSU (2-6) W
vs Oregon (5-3) W
@ Stanford (5-3) W
They have the following games remaining...
vs C.al (5-3)
@ Colorado (5-3)
vs Arizona (4-5)
vs UW (6-3)
The U$C, Utah and Stanford games were all extremely close 50/50 games, and I could see the same for the final four games on WSU's schedule. So, yeah, I think WSU is going to lose two more games. At the moment, I think that Utah is the best team in the Pac-12.

WSU is actually 8th in the current playoff rankings.
By definition, two of the teams above them will lose another game due to playing each other.
There are three (relevant) undefeated teams - Bama, Clemson, und. Bama winning out will eliminate two above WSU - Clemson and und don't play other contenders and unless they lose twice are probably in.
Then WSU left with having to pass Michigan and Oklahoma. Both have several chances to lose still.
If there are few enough one loss conference champs, WSU will get in. The problem this year is that und looks likely to end up in the mix, and thus likely to kick out one conference champ.
Papa John Wrote:At the moment, I think that Utah is the best team in the Pac-12.
I've been wondering about that.
On the one hand they have just had four big wins, with 40+ points scored and at least a two score margin each. Impressive.
On the other hand, they've been awfully lucky with opponent woes during that stretch.
- Stanford was beat up and exhausted for that game and still outgained the Utes (which they haven't done all that often this year) but gave away the game on turnovers and stupid things.
- Arizona had Tate injured early so he hardly played.
- $C had Daniels injured and eventually replaced by Fink (who also got injured)
- UCLA had Thompson-Robinson injured the week before, and never got into the game.

The scenario of Wazzu to the CFP as a way for us to go to the Rose Bowl is probably more far-fetched than Wazzu losing two games.
In addition to requiring Wazzu to win out and have enough teams in front lose, as noted above, it also requires two more events for our purposes:
1) We’d need to win out (which is not absolutely 100% required in the other scenario, btw.)
2) We’d need Utah to lose at least one more time in the regular season and then again in the CCG. Even then, it’s not a given that we’d be above Utah due to their head-to-head win and the relative lack of penalty for losses in the CCG.
Putting all these requirements together, I think two losses by Wazzu is considerably more likely and also a more gratifying way for us to qualify.
