And the reason for the postponement 55 years ago?  The Kennedy assassination (mentioned here).

A more recent postponement (not of a Big Game):
Stanford at SJS 9/15/01 postponed to 12/1/01 CORRECTED

I wasn't paying attention to the month/year and had to Google why it was moved.  Now I feel dumb.

In case anyone from the  Stanford Athletics Marketing is reading,  I realized I  had mail from Stanford on 11/12 15:02 PST with  subject "Big Game and UCLA Kickoffs Announced"  from "Stanford Football" <updates@gostanford.fan-one.com>,
Reply-To: "Stanford Athletics" <stanfordathleticsmarketing@stanford.edu>

but have not yet received an updated game time via that route. (I also just mailed to the Reply-To  address.)

And it's still going to be only available on the Pac12 Network?!? I would think the braintrust would try and get a little more exposure, especially as there will only be Army Navy and a few conference championships that day, right?

What could be more riveting for a national audience than two perennial arch rivals battling for a birth in the Cheeze it Bowl.

Yeah, let's face it. It's hard to see anybody but a Stanford or a Kal fan having much interest in this game.

Well, it was scheduled to be broadcasted on ESPN Radio, so someone paid to decide what is valuable thought an ESPN Radio audience might care. Don't know if it will still be the plan to air it on Dec. 1.

Or they could have found gaming nerds at both schools and play it on X Box.

I think the delay gives Stanford a major advantage in that a number of our starters and backups can really heal up - Smith, JJ, Toohill, Herbig, and others.

Yeah, no question it is at least as interesting as, say, Western Carolina (3-7) playing North Carolina (1-8). Who knows what that person's choices or decision criteria were.

Cal has its own share of injuries and we don't know what next week's games will bring. One of their better WRs came back this week in Jordan Duncan. Kanawai Noa likely wouldn't play today, and their leading WR Vic Wharton is banged up.  They also will have one more week and a game to get Brandon McIlwain (their great athlete who has been a turnover machine at QB) some work at WR.

Translation: the bye week really helps both teams at this point in the season. David Shaw has griped about the SEC schools playing the little sisters of the poor this week on their schedules for a reason. Think Alabama's perfect record, and Tagaivailoa's health would be more at risk playing Georgia or Florida this week, instead of The Citadel?

There are 13 FBS games on 12/1.
