RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Notre Dame 6pm Monday - BostonCard - 04-01-2019

Across both the women’s and men’s tournaments, three #2 seeds advanced by beating a #1 seed (nice to see Duke go down!).  The one #2 seed that didn’t advance was beaten by a lower seed.

Let's revisit some recent Stanford highlights vs. Notre Dame.

2016 in Lexington - https://www.ncaa.com/video/basketball-women/2016-03-25/wbk-stanford-notre-dame-sweet-sixteen

2017 also in Lexington - https://www.ncaa.com/video/basketball-women/2017-03-26/wbk-403-stanford-notre-dame-elite-eight

One nice thing about being a 10-1 underdog is that this is the least anxious I've felt before a big game all season. Even a close game feels like gravy. I hope our team feels the same way and shoots loose and plays free. Go Stanford!

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Notre Dame 6pm Monday - qwerty49 - 04-01-2019

There may be no sillier betting proposition than the point spread in basketball. Having said that, ND is favored by 10 tonight. And Baylor by 14.5 over Iowa.

I think that no matter what happens, whoever punches the last 2 FF tickets tonight will be worthy.

Sure would be great if we were one of them!

Baylor: 4/71 = 5.6%
Notre Dame: 10/69 = 14.5%
Iowa = 18/57 = 31.6%
UConn = 15/58 = 25.9%
Mississippi State = 11/54 = 20.4%
Louisville = 17/57 = 29.8%
Oregon = 20/58 = 34.5%

Meanwhile, 42.6% of our shot attempts were 3-pointers today and that makes us too vulnerable to being dependent on hot shooting nights. Luckily our defense carried the day, but with Notre Dame's explosive offense, that won't be enough on Monday

Over the course of the full season, 41.3% of Stanford's shot attempts were three-point attempts (898 of 2176). That is very consistent with the percentage against Missouri State (42.6%). So Stanford was doing what it has been doing all season long -- shooting lots of threes. Many of those shots were open. They just weren't falling. I would expect better three-point shooting against Notre Dame.

Damn (Oh-oh, hope that's not verboten), Terry, I revel in your optimism. Hope your expectations are borne out--by a factor of four or more.

A slow start, to the first  media timeout.  I'll take a lead anytime, but the missed layups and the over-passes surely hurt.

Great D.

I hate last second fouls. I thought we were going to hold ND to under 10 for a quarter.

Gotta make our layups and Kiana has got to start making her shots

Ouch so frustrating to watch those missed bunnies. 5 of them right away. Can’t blow opportunities like that!

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Notre Dame 6pm Monday - 2006alum - 04-01-2019

Tara is a scouting genius. Taking it inside keeps us from clanking treys that rebound into the backcourt and give them fast break opportunities and keeps them playing half-court offense. I like it.

... And it helps when we aren't hitting treys anyway. But man does Dodson need to finish through on her layups.

Tara didn't have any patience with Dodson tonight -  0- 4 on layups

And there’s no single factor either. Wrong angle, no touch, too tight, sheesh all of the above.

Damn / second on Dijonai

like that kicked ball by young

Griffins78 - Griffins78 - 04-01-2019

The kicked ball to a fast break because everyone thought the ball was dead shows how blind the referees are on many of their calls. They are often just guessing.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Notre Dame 6pm Monday - 2006alum - 04-01-2019

Doubt we can keep this up for another 20 minutes, but so far we're executing really well. Missing some bunnies, and Dodson is such a liability on offense, but I'm pleased that no matter what happens, we took it to them for a half. Tara and her staff continue to wow me when I think I can't be any more in awe of her than I already am.

The ref that called it was shielded by DiJonai, leaving me wondering what he could have seen.  I am at work so don't have replay so I couldn't go back and look at it.   BUT, the refs have swallowed their whistles, and seem asleep at their posts (obvious kicked ball!), so I'm not worried about the number of fouls.  I'd rather have 0 on her, but still unlikely to impact too much.  She just needs to be careful in the first 5 minutes of the 3Q.

What a downer attitude!  Yes, I expect ND will put on a run.  Stanford will respond.   I'm think of good possibilities and some sun for the team and probably some fans next weekend.  Announcer:  "Will Stanford have enough in the tank?"   Why don't they say that about ND??

We are playing good D. ND had 2-3 shots that went in and out. We missed 5 layups right at the start.

Williams hitting from 3 is a good sign.

If the Hulls can contribute to the scoring I’d feel better.
