"The schools' involvement in the early kickoff would be voluntary."

I'm emailing Muir and telling him not to even think about it.

You know, even though I hate this idea generally, I did think of one and only one situation where it might be preferable: at reunion.

I remember what a pain it is for reunion not knowing when everything will be. Everything is in flux until the final week — will old friends have their get-togethers before the game or after, juggling all the panels, sessions, mini-reunions, etc until 6 days away. Really, the schools should have demanded some pre-scheduling for all reunions initially, but now, given the current situation, a 9am with advance notice could be better than the totally unknown.

But other than reunion, yes, don’t even think about it

Just to be clear, I meant that I liked the phrase "kegs and eggs" and not the 9am kickoff but now that you mention the reunion uncertainty aspect, there could actually be an advantage to this idea once a year.

I have no problem with it on a once every other year or every three years (like Wilner has proposed) basis. I woke up at 4 AM to go to College Game Day, I would have loved a 9AM kickoff that day! Of course, I also have no problem with most of our other kickoff times.

If you hate every kickoff that isn't between 2 and 5, then I'm afraid you're never going to be happy. Stanford wants to be on TV, the conference needs all its games on TV, and if 60 some odd college football games all happen in the same time slot, guess which mediocre conference and small fan base team is never gonna be on TV...
