Does everyone agree that this is final? Sure, there will be some team(s) that will try to tempt him to come back in due time, but by then I suspect Luck will be thoroughly engrossed in whatever post-NFL life has to offer.

Congratulations to Andrew Luck on his deserved if premature retirement. Any fan of football has to be a little disappointed on missing out on what could have been an unparalleled career, but as Stanford fans we got to see him more than any others, on a team built for his talents. Pretty darn lucky. His trucking of the Cal defender is still my favorite play as a fan.

Hope he has a fantastic time travelling the world.

I am so sad to hear this news, and will savor all the memories he has left us on the field.    LIke many of you, I am furious with the Colt's past management and certainly with their fans' "good bye" of last night, and will never root for them again.    And of course I hope he spends a bit of time on the farm while he figures out what is next.   He is always interesting!

I have to say, I'm not too surprised. For the 40 year decision to be truly worth it, you need to be mentally and physically healthy for those 40 years. Andrew has too much talent and too many off-field interests to let his body get so beaten that he won't be able to pursue them all happily. He has more money than he'll ever need, and seems to be eager to get on with the next stage of what I'm sure will be an interesting and talented life. And he's probably done more than any other single person to burnish the Stanford brand since Tiger Woods (pre-2010).

So thank you Andrew, and as they say in the land of the lucky, may the road rise up to meet you.

The Indy Fans are fools. I understand they feel rejected by Luck retiring. However, he gave them everything he had. The tank is empty right now. They can expect no more. Some of the fans are mad he didn't quit before the draft. They should just be glad he didn't spend this year on IR and not allow the Colts to plan for the future even though he was going to quit anyway. He could have made a lot more money by doing just that, maybe even get a PUP settlement on the rest of his contract. At draft time, he wasn't sure he couldn't be ready to play this year. Now, he is sure he can't. Too many injuries with no time to get totally right.

Unlike some, I wouldn't be amazed that in two years or so, Luck may want to play again. He has been on a treadmill since 2015, and that wears on you. Maybe after some real time off, with nobody wanting to know if you can play next week, he may want to give it another go. I also wouldn't be amazed if he didn't.

I would be very surprised if tries to come back down the road.  First, I don't think his identity is all tied up in being a football player.  He has always been described as a very intelligent guy with lots of interests beside football.  Now he can afford to take off with his wife, travel, heal up and decide what the next step will be.  My guess his wife had some input regarding his decision.

I'm with all those who say, "good for him." Were I a loved one of his, I'd have strongly encouraged him to retire a few years back. Were he on a team that prioritized protecting him, I might have sung a different tune. The guy has too much to live for to continue to put his head and body in peril every day for an organization that doesn't deserve him. Also, he's not a jock and nothing else. He's as smart as they come, has a promising career ahead of him in architecture (or whatever else he may choose to pursue), and has a wide range of interests and worldly pursuits. I'm ecstatic for him, as hard as this decision may have been for him.

I will never understand why he re-signed with the Colts. He should have gone to a team that was going to protect him.
