Leach is a very good football coach. Yeah, he is quirky and eccentric and can be a bit of a jerk sometimes.
He does throw his players under the bus too much, but, as I have said before, I think it bothers Cardboarders more than it does his players.

Well, it is his team, and not really for us to judge (except when he allegedly places his players at physical risk of harm, as he allegedly did while coach at Texas Tech). I think the only reason it is brought up is that some posters compare Shaw unfavorably to Leech and also complain that Shaw throws his players under the bus and refuses to responsibility for his coaching shortcomings. In that light, I think the comparisons to Leech are a bit odd. Then again, all coaches will have their strengths and weaknesses, and I suppose it is not unreasonable to wish that Shaw's offense were a bit more wide open (like Leech's) but not that he would adopt the latter's attitude towards his players when things go wrong.

The coaching carousel should be interesting this time around. I thought PJ Fleck would be the golden goose, but Minnesota gave him a 7 year extension a couple weeks ago.

Leach has been there and done that. Given a shade better luck or the right players (and it's hard to recruit to Pullman vs. the rest of the Pac-12), he very well could have had a Pac-12 championship already.

Stanford doesn't match up well with WSU on paper at all. The linebacking corps is decimated, and WSU is great at speedy intermediate crossing routes. WSU also has raw speed, and UCF showed what a fast WR can do against even the best of our defensive backs. On the other hand, assuming Stanford will get dragged into a shootout, the offense will have to grind out possessions and win TOP. Can't do that without QB play. Unless Mills comes back (and that also assumes Shaw starts Mills over a still-healthy KJ), I don't see a great passing offense forthcoming next week. Maybe the OL will step up and Austin Jones will rock out in the Palouse, but...yeah...

Saturday forecast in Pullman, WA: High of 49 degF, low of 41 degF. PM showers. Sounds lovely.

Given how much we have struggled with Wazzu over the last four years even when we were good, I can't say I'm optimistic about this game. The good news is that the Cougs are down also, although they showed against Colorado and Oregon they are capable of playing good football.
At least it won't be snowing. However, having watched the Washington WSU game last year, I think snow might hurt the Cougs as much as it would us.

Pretty meaningless unless he's fired, in which case MN is on the hook for the rest of his salary. He can leave anytime, and if there are any buyouts, the programs to which he'd jump would be more than willing to pay it.
