The starting OF next year - Dickerson, Yaz, Castellanos
Sad to Pillar go but I certainly understand the rationale. It has nothing to do with money. It is all about positioning the to make a run in 2021. Pillar would have been gone by then since 2020 is his final year of arb. eligibility.
Didn't realize the Giants signed Castellanos. . . .
Can Yaz repeat?
Can Dickerson stay on the field?
Two big ifs. . . .Pillar at least was a known quantity and a leader to inspire the young pups.
Castellanos - Not yet. However, they are making a strong bid to sign him.

Well, as a fan I’d like a reason to watch. I get the metric thing I really do. And Pillar is metrically challenged. Having said that – he was also fun to watch. And while he was only a 1.0 “war” – he was of more value to the Giants. I know they need to turn over the roster get younger etc. But again I’m a fan - give me a reason to watch. So hopefully they take the $10 million that was going to go to Pillar and use it wisely.
Objective for 2020 should be get younger, hopefully continue to build the farm system and put a team on the field that is at least watchable. I trust the first two will be met. Not so sure of the third. I’m hoping we see Ramos and Bart up by June 1. I’d also get a first baseman’s glove in Bart’s locker real quickly.
My early prediction 61-101. It’s going to be a long season. But hey at least the coconut oil will be flowing.

Before debating the merits of Pillar being on the roster or not, please explain what the objective you have for the 2020 Giants is, exactly.
Only then can any meaningful discussion be had. I have a sneaking suspicion that the "oh no, we're losing Pillar" crowd's objectives aren't grounded in reality, but let's see. Maybe I'm totally off base.

I too love the intangibles Kevin Pillar brings and recognize he is entertaining to see play, but...
Kevin Pillar is like eating a cheeseburger, fries, and a shake and not exercising. Really enjoyable in the moment, but try consuming that diet on a daily basis and being sedentary. You will pay for it in a very bad way down the road.
You are far better off eating a more nutritious meal and doing some heavy exercise to get where you want to be. No, it isn't necessarily fun to see younger players cycle through who may not be as entertaining, but that is the nutrition and exercise it takes to become stronger and more fit. The Giants need to take the hard road to get better, not the easy one that feels good in the moment and got them in the mess they are now in.
The cult of personality player worship among Giants fans simply must end for the team to get back to legit contender status. It's like an addiction that must be broken. It's gonna hurt and be uncomfortable at first, but everyone will be better off in the end for having gone through it.

Ah good now the fans are holding back the Giants.
Outsider would be happy to learn that the Giants resigned Anderson and his 11. ERA to be a potential starter.
Oh joy

Nah. His ERA was in the 5s. His WHIP was a mere 1.55 though. . . .

What is his muscle confirmation? Does he seek statistics from his date partners? How many times does he eat kale?

Oops. Googled Anderson and Giants, and the kid with the hair popped up. Figured we resigned him as the giants elected to not resign Pillar.

MAYBE, and I know this sounds nutty, the Giants know what they are doing:

A guy who can play corner outfield AND infield, plus hits better than Pillar, Belt and Longoria, plus is 4 years younger than Pillar. How could that possibly be valuable?

Pretty sure Castellanos is not known for his defense. Or worse, he's known for his bad defense. That said, he has been shifted all over the field in his early career so maybe if his new team sticks with him at a single position he'll improve to league average.
Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Pillar gets signed for a cheaper contract (not necessarily resigned, though)

This makes sense to me. The Giants probably want Pillar back, but not at 10M a year. As has been repeatedly pointed out, they are stuck with some large contracts that don't make sense given the team's overall situation. They just didn't want to add another one, even if they could afford it.

Balance. You need a cheeseburger at times. It can’t all be ***** kale. Also – while I’m at it let me add this: if the Giants had some young hot shot centerfielder waiting in the wings I’d have no problem. But they don’t. They have Steven Dugger. And I’ve seen enough of that act. Jaylen Davis – really hasn’t shown much except for a very small stretch at AAA last year. So what you essentially have is: nothing. And Castellanos can’t play CF.

How bout BOTH. Why the mutual exclusivity. Money is not the issue. The Giants have plenty of it. Plus we are talking about a one year deal. Hardly something that was going to break the bank. Further Dash I will believe the Giants sign Castellanos when the Giants sign Castellanos. They’ve had a hell of a time signing any free-agent hitter.

What are his personal analytics. Is he an olive oil man or a coconut. Does he date above or below the Mendoza Line. Will he take a walk on a date or will he swing for the fences. Kale or sprouts. Veggie burger or tofu. Uncle Farhan has all the answers.

Sounds like Bumgarner doesn't want to leave the Giants. Which means he'd probably take less to stay with Giants than he would demand elsewhere. You KNOW Bumgarner is all about winning, so him wanting to stay with a rebuilding team tells you how much he loves the organization and that he probably wants to be a Giants lifer.
I'm sure the Giants could justify keeping him at some price. The question will be if whatever that is will be enough for Bumgarner.
