RE: Coach Shaw staying the course - OutsiderFan - 12-07-2019

After reading all that Rivals interview, I want to focus on one thing, Spring official visits.

Shaw made valid points about Spring official visits from the "con" side, but he seemingly made no effort to illustrate any "pro" side whatsoever. It left me wondering if there is a way to do both.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?  Is there a way to allow Spring OVs while not compromising having a well-attended Big Visit weekend after signing day?

One thing I decidedly do not buy from Shaw is the whole "it's hard on coaches to do Spring official visits."  I'm sorry, how much are they being paid to coach a game? You want to win, you push the envelope everywhere, all the time. if Stanford could land just one elite prospect per year as a result of hosting say five visitors, it could mean the difference between making a championship game and not.

Big disappointment on my part but so agree outsider fan. :)
Waiting on official visits until the player is admitted means never in the spring for football.

A lot will depend on who comes back and who departs.  Early returns are not great.

But strangely I'm tempted to take the over on that one.  I'd be hard pressed to say we are likely to wind up with a good season, but I could see us ending the year at 6-6.

Off-camera announcer (think SuperBowl): "Hey, coach Shaw! You just concluded a 4-8 season and wound up in the dregs of almost every statistic in the FBS! What'd'ya do now?!"

Shaw: "Stand pat".

This is an honest question, not a disagreement. Could you point me in the direction of the confirmation that it is not due to them not being admitted/not wanting to go to grad school at Stanford? If it is on this board, I must have somehow missed it.

I’m on the other boards and missed it.

I interpreted the statement the other way, that academics and grad school played no role in their decision to enter the portal. What do I know, though, I was an engineering major and reading comprehension was never a strong suit.

I think you and I interpreted it the same way, that academics and grad school were not the issues that led them to enter the transfer portal, i.e. it is NOT due to them ((NOT being admitted) or (NOT wanting to)). Perhaps too many "nots". But the, I was in EE and we had to do a lot of De Morganing.

Not on this board. Believe the original source is StanfordRivals message boards but a former player confirmed to me privately that it is NOT due to academics/grad school admissions
