Our 2 bigs with 2 fouls against such a tall team means the rebounds likely won't turn around. We have to stop trying to get the rebound when they are already in position.
The deficit isn't insurmountable but it is a tall hill.
I'm not happy with our defense either. Joyner Holmes is well on her way to a double double. She went around a flat footed Belibi. We don't have two experienced "bigs" to defend the two Texas bigs. We could use Dodson to put out there against Collier.

Finally a travel call. 3 bad calls in 2 minutes. Just now Belibi should be called for 3 in paint.
Twice the Texas big has hopped before her shot but no travel call.

I have worried since Alanna graduated and Dodson was injured about our ability to defend two talented big players in the paint. My worries were warranted. Haven't seen Prectel in the 2nd half yet, have we?

Given the strength of the Pac-12 I suspect Stanford will lose a number of games during the season. It would be great to see Stanford rally up and win this game, but in hoops a few losses don't necessarily eliminate a team's goals for the season.

At least twice

Well, we tied the game at the end of the third quarter, so don't give up hope quite yet.

Much better quarter and we take a one point lead into the fourth quarter. Hopefully the Longhorns lack of depth rears it’s head in the fourth and we continue cruising.

Well, a 10-2 run in the last of the 3rd and we lead 47-46 going in to the 4th. I like the way Andy Landers put it, we "gnawed" our way back in. Every basket is a struggle. We are still shooting only 31% but 13 free throws have helped a whole lot.
I still feel we have to shoot a whole lot better in the 4th to pull this out. A couple of threes going down would turn the tide of this game--either way.

Bad decision, kiana waited too long. She's struggling big time, 1 of 10

Shame if UT girl is hurt but that was NOT a block. Finkel was outside the protected zone and sationary.
Replay confirms that.

We are behind 56-55 with Lexie about to shoot 2 free throws. Holmes is back for Texas. 5 minutes to decide this game.

8 points this quarter.

I got a bad feeling about this...

Why do you go for two when down three with 6 seconds left? It’s one thing to take the easy bucket when there’s plenty of time on the shot clock, but with 5.7 seconds that’s not a lot of time to trade fouls for points.

Yeah that sucked.

Argh. A sad way to end it, unable to inbound the ball.

Can we please stop with Jerome. Don’t throw to a wide open Jump. My goodness that was a bad bad ending
Please don’t post that the target is off our back because it never is.
Ok bottom line we gave up layups and missed ours.
Worst of all UConn moves to # 1.

Down 3 with the ball in the front court and 20 seconds on the clock, why didn't Tara call a timeout until under 6 seconds. Why didn't Hannah take the 3 rather than feed it inside? I also wonder about the consecutive timeouts by Tara. After all, you might not have an easy inbounds, or they may foul, then you foul, then they foul, and you want to get to the front court with a timeout.

Lots of things to address and I am confident they will be addressed.
No doubt that playing in the Pac-12 will get them ready for the NCAA tournament.
A win over Texas would have been nice, but the loss will be OK if the team can address the things that were exposed.

Write up at the top.
Yes, the end of the game was bad--two really bad decisions. But long before that:
1) We shot very poorly.
2) We gave up 19 Oboards. That is poor boxing out.
3) Texas figured out how to disrupt our offense. It looked disjointed and we hoisted up contested treys.

Joyner Holmes had some creative defense on that play. She fell down in front of Jump, blocking her progress, then hopped up and stole the inbound pass. Would have been a blocking or tripping foul if Jump hadn't quickly held up to avoid the contact with Holmes not in a legal guarding position.
Just a quibble, of course. Nice win by Texas. Hopefully we can learn a lot from watching the film.
