Well, Oregon has taken over now. Our turnovers finally started to cost us, and our shot selection throughout the 2nd and 3rd quarters has not been very good.
It's going to take a remarkable comeback at this point, as Oregon has relaxed now and is not making a lot of mistakes.

This one’s really getting away from us.

In the second and third quarters, Oregon has outscored Stanford 52-31. Ugh.
Ionescu now with 29 points, 11/23 (5/12 from three). Take out the first quarter, and she is 9/15 (10/18 from three).

We are not helping ourselves... 15 turnovers. Oregon with 8 offensive rebounds (vs. 3 for Stanford). All told, Oregon has taken 14 more shots than we have (plus an extra seven free throws), so even though the shooting percentages are pretty even, they are winning going away.

Agree o boards and turnovers, and fouling shooters. 42 of last 55 pts to Oregon, ouch

Hopefully this will be a good learning experience and we will play better at Maples. I've also noticed that Tara has done very little substituting. Our starting five must be getting pretty tired. Oregon looks deeper than we do so far.
I can only guess that at some point in the game you start preparing for Oregon State. The Oregons will be a very tough road trip for every Pac-12 team.

Yikes, this is turning into a complete melt down like at Maples last year. Ionescu has 31 on 12/24 and there is still time left. We are being outscored in the 4th quarter 13-1 so far. Our defense has collapsed, and so has our offense. Ugh.

We're being outscored by ionescu and Sabally

If it makes anyone feel better, Wazzu is up 5 points against the Oregon men. 7 mins to play.

It was really hard to watch, just a total meltdown. A lot of the turnovers were players getting desperate and then making telegraphed passes that just weren't there. Hopefully they learn from this like last year.

I think ESPN just said Oregon was on a 42-13 run.

The best thing about this game is that Ionescu and Hebard are seniors.

OK, raise your hand if you had the UCLA women's basketball team and the Stanford men's basketball team as the last teams to be undefeated in conference. All of you with your hands raised are liars!

That's true. I think I would have been more likely to believe UCLA's women could be undefeated after 2 weeks, but would not have predicted the Stanford men could start 4-0.

I would have believed a UCLA 4-0 start, but not that Oregon, OSU, and Stanford would all have a loss in their first five games.

Someone may have to double check my math, but I think right after tip off, Oregon went on something like a 87-55 run.

It will be very hard to claim a #1 seed as this type of bad loss will consistently be presented as the counterpoint in the committee.
There is a lot of upside with the Stanford team, but I feared for a few weeks now that this group was doing a lot with physical ability and raw hoops talent. Today they played a team that was talented and confident in their system. Add in a very vocal home venue and it was just too much.
I am not super confident the new players will be ready for a deep NCAA run in just 2 months, but really like the multi-year potential in this group. I know they have progressed a lot, but there is a big difference between beating teams at Cal's level and beating teams at Oregon's level.
Next is Sunday for this group. A split during the Oregon weekend will not be common in Pac-12 play, so hopefully Stanford can get that this weekend.

My post-mortem is done at the top. We were badly beated on the O boards, badly beaten in turnovers, and badly beaten in shooting percentage. Our vaunted defense did not defend the last three quarters, and our shooting accuracy tanked too. Such is the stuff of 30 point losses.
Most revealing to me is how few players Tara was willing to play during crunch time. Oregon looked much deeper than we did.

In case any doubt remained that Sabrina Ionescu was the sine qua non for the broadcast from ESPN's perspective, when she subbed out at the end, ESPN cut to a commercial... even though the game was proceeding on. Doh! : - 0
Glad we at least kept her [barely] from getting a triple-double.

I know AZ State held them to under 70 points, but playing at home, we would only hope to contain the Ducks and our offense could not keep up. Every time Ionescu shot the ball, I was expecting it to go in. That is the dependability of a superstar, in the mode of a Breanna Stewart, Nneka or Griner. Unfortunately, we do not have that player on our roster at the moment.
Our offense can be too predictable at times and we were forcing passes that resulted in turnovers; we simply cannot do that and give Oregon multiple possessions in a row without a chance to score ourselves.
We used to have that type of inside scoring presence like Hebard, known as Appel and then the Ogwumike sisters. It's not as fun when we are on the other side...
Ionescu and Hebard are clearly the most talented and experienced players on the court and they took over the game. Our chance was to have a complete team effort and although we hung with them for roughly 23-25 minutes, we could not maintain that level and like any elite team does, they took over.
Maybe I became a Stanford wbball fan during one of our zeniths at the tail end of the Wiggins era into the Appel-Pedersen-Ogwumike period and I became spoiled, but have we lost 30+ point games in back to back seasons before where we looked completely outmatched?

Tough to win on the road in this conference. I am confident the re-match at Maples
will be a lot closer. This road trip was always going to be the toughest of challenges,
so even getting a split would be fantastic.
