Something about UCLA-Stanford and streaks ending this year.

What a fantastic performance tonight by MBB. Although this won't
necessarily be a marquee win on our resume, this game was important
as far as avoiding a "bad loss" that could hurt our tourney chances.

This was our first road game against a top 200 team, in a house where we hadn't won since 2005. Skeptics had a right to their position.
Got a little worried when we fell behind by 7 points, that was a legitimate punch UCLA landed, but we slugged right back. Lord Tyrell rocked it.

I continue to be impressed with this team, and am amazed by the maturity and skill of Tyrell Terry. It is certainly a fun team to watch!

UCLA was favored by 1. We beat them by 15. What a second half!

Guess we'll just have to keep proving Vegas wrong, huh? 13-4 against the spread.

Wow. UCLA is bad. But Stanford is good . Terry is a difference maker.

Nobody betting money takes Stanford too seriously yet.
With a few exceptions, they've been easy money since Butler (for this fan, anyway). I keep expecting the lines to catch up with Stanford, but so far so good.

You didn't hear me and my Toyon dorm mate cheering Stanford 4 rows from the top of the arena? It was a beautiful thing to see in person.
Listening to the UCLA postgame on the drive home from Pauley, Don MacLean (sorry for prior misspelling) strongly complimented Stanford. He said he saw the 2nd game of the season (vs. Fullerton) and could not believe it was the same team he had watched in recent years. The team defense was excellent and exactly what Mick Cronin wants to see at UCLA. Cronin ripped his team in the postgame presser for their lack of effort. Said he would have played 4 guys on the court in the 2nd half if he could have because he could not find 5 he trusted to put on the floor. Wow.
Special props to Daejon Davis for a tremendous effort despite his injury. I could not tell if it was right ankle or something else. He could barely play defense in the latter part of the 1st half because he could barely run. Yet he gutted it out and came out in the 2nd half charging up and down the court like nothing was wrong. I think that is a great example of what Coach Haase means when he talks about team chemistry and commitment to each other.

I have a theory: a*F + b*B = k, where F and B are our winning percentages in football and men's basketball, respectively, in the same year, and k is a constant. I'm too lazy to collate all the data, however.

Here you go. Over the past 10 years (including the current season):
7F + 10B = 11. F=x and B=y on the graph.

It is a road game, but sounds more like a neutral venue game.
Well, it got pretty loud when they tied it up on 7 unanswered points.
Loud? This place sounds like a library. I am not expecting Cameron Crazies type noise levels, but at times you can hear the individual coaches and players.
Not that the quiet environment is a bad thing for Stanford. Though I sometimes wonder the road team players want that noisy home crowd to get them hyped. Maybe that infamous late arriving LA crowd will show up in the second half and that will add some intensity for the Stanford players.
I should’ve added “on TV” because I wasn’t there. Not arguing at all with the outcome! ?????????

Time for a nerd moment...I teach intro to statistics. When I teach linear regression, the first thing I tell students to do is plot the data and just look at it. Ask yourself "does this data look like a x-y line would represent it well?" If not, then don't do a regression because the result will be pretty meaningless. And that is the case here.

Stanford now #11 in Adjusted D efficiency.
AND... Bryce Wills now at 50% FT for the season!
Is it safe to say Stanford has a Big Three in Da Silva, Terry, and Jones? It sure does look that way to me. Everything I have ever known about basketball is that if a team has three legit good players, the team is legit good too.
