Oregon State leads 36-34 at halftime as we ultimately sliced 4 points off the Beavers' lead through a roller coaster 2nd quarter that saw them increase the lead again to 10 after we cut it to 2, but then we went on a 9-0 run to briefly take the lead on a couple occasions before Slocum returned and gave them the advantage back before the half.
Speaking of Slocum, I am sure Tara will be focusing some of her halftime adjustments on her. Much like Ionescu, Slocum can take over a game and she has with 21 points on 9/13 shooting so far. After giving up 37 to Sabrina on Thursday, the team will be eager not to let another guard put up 30+ again against them.
Jones and Prechtel cooled off in the second half, but Lexie has picked up the pace and now is the first player in double digits for us. Kiana's defense and strip of the ball that led to her 3-pointer was also pivotal in igniting our run that got us back in the game.
Jerome fell akwardly trying to defend a Slocum drive and Lacie has two fouls, so we might be a little short-handed. We haven't seen Belibi at all so far as Tara is probably surmising that she would not be as effective as a defender against the Oregon State players.
In the first half, we showed a lot of mental toughness, hanging in there and fighting back despite the Beavers' numerous runs. We have to maintain that type of fortitude in the second half as the Beavers with their myriad of weapons will continue to challenge. We not only have to keep up our defensive intensity, but we have to hit timely shots as well. We can't completely stop the array of Beavers sharpshooters and now inside players of Jones and Brown, so we'll have to score consistently too if we want a chance to win this game.

I think our shooting was off in the 1st quarter--perhaps lingering effects of the drubbing we received on Thursday. Confidence is key to shooting. But those jitters seem to be gone and we are shooting somewhat better.
We need someone to get hot to equalize Slocum. Prechtel looked like it might be her for a bit. Williams is going to need to score a lot more than 5 points in the second half if we are to pull it out.

Giving a lot of credit to Slocum. I thought we were guarding her quite well
We did to score more inside. Had some good drives need more

We lead 44-42 after three quarters in a defensive slugfest for the 3rd 10 minutes of the game.
Unfortunately for us, the biggest consequence of these ten minutes was the knee injury to Haley Jones. She was attempting to block an Oregon State player as she was driving and fell backwards akwardly, it looks like. She was down for several minutes with trainers attending to her and then she needed help to the locker room as she was unable to put any weight on her right leg.
This is a serious blow for her and the team and I hope that it's not a serious injury. All my best to Haley!

We've seen seemingly bad injuries only to have the player come back later in a game. Let's hope that is it. But Jones left without putting any weight on her leg at all, and Fingall was very emotional--makes me wonder if they heard something. The replay did not show awkward angles or twisting--it seems to have happened when Jones was getting herself up off the floor.

Haley on the bench with ice. Not coming back but hope for the best.
Fingall has been outstanding. Best all around game ever for her
Tied under 5 to go. Can we do it

Jones has a big ice pack on her knee on the bench.
Meanwhile, we have tied it up 55-55 going into the last 5 minutes.

Oh my. I think our freshmen grew up a bit. Now we can wait to find out what happened to Haley.

I almost lost it when Kiana missed the front end of her free throws to keep it a one possession game. And it hurt to give up the offensive rebound off the free throw with four seconds left. I had visions of the three going in and sending the game to Ot.

We win 61-58.
We may have won the battle, but we paid a dear price for it potentially with Haley's injury. The broadcasters were commenting about tears in her eyes; hopefully it was not from a bad prognosis regarding her knee.
I think Tara's strategy to run down the clock on our possessions at the end of the game while we had the lead was a reflection of her lack of confidence in our offense to keep up with Oregon State if they score multiple times. With this strategy, it limits the number of Beavers' possessions so that we will have to stop them fewer times.
As one of the broadcasters pointed out, we have no Plan B with these possessions when we run out the clock. We don't give ourselves enough time to find another answer if our first play is guarded closely as we start it with fewer than 10 seconds and so it usually results in a turnover or desperation, low-percentage shot.
Anyway, I really appreciated our team's mental toughness to withstand another superstar's great performance, a hostile crowd and runs by a great team. We didn't fold in critical situations and we came up with enough clutch baskets to pull out the win.
Now we wait for the prognosis on Haley's injury. I feel our chances for a conference title and a deep postseason run will take a nosedive if we lose her and Carrington and Dodson remain sidelined as well.

I had visions of back when JJ Hones tears her ACL against cal and we were so deflated we lost badly.
But we played so tough today. Very proud of this team. I think we bounced back just fine.
Lacie I know you saw the men Yesterday. Bad foul and now lol
