Amazing final shot.  Just amazing.  She'll never forget that.  Never.

Helped that Colorado missed 4/6 free throws down the stretch.

And nothing but the bottom of the net!

Kiana had a fantastic game, all the way, but this finish! What an escape. I wish I had a way to keep a clip of these last 14 seconds and then could watch it over and over.

And another great result today -- Georgia Tech just beat NC State 65-61. End of #1 seed talk for NC State???

CU shot 27 free throws.  We shot 8.  Pac-12 should investigate this officiating crew.

What is it about this CU team?  They are only 4-10 in the Pac-12 but we can barely beat them.

RE: WBB: Stanford @ Colorado Sunday 11am - M T - 02-16-2020

I'm glad no one got hurt in that pile up.  That's the kind of shot that gets Kiana the attention for end-of-the-season honors.  While I wish we had won big, I'm glad we won.  We're getting too much practice at last-minute strategy.

The Colorado coach had used all her time-outs - the last two to advance the ball I believe.  I think she will regret not keeping one in her pocket.  It was clearly a mistake for the Colorado girl to pick up her dribble.  When I saw that, I thought we had a good chance for overtime.  But I didn't imagine the Kiana factor!

Colorado had 19 FTA to 6 FTA for Stanford  BEFORE the 4th quarter.

This was a big win for us because a loss would mean that we had no margin for error.

UConn won big but #4 NC State lost 2nd game in a row.  That may open a better seed for a couple of PAC-12 teams.

Not quite a half-court shot.  She released it about equidistant between the three point line and mid court, so let’s call it a 35-footer.

How about a Steph Curry shot?

not only a steph curry shot, but also a steph curry clutch ending to hit 2 3s to come from behind and win.

Amazing finish! Wow!

I was out and did not get to see the game, which is probably better for my blood pressure, but wow, what an ending!  Hats off to Kiana Williams.  That was just crazy good.  I don't know what it is, CO just has our number (almost!) this season, or else just a fluky thing where they happen to play well against us.  A crusher for them, for sure.  I guess I'll have to watch a replay.

Write up is finished at the top.

The most exciting finish for a Stanford basketball game since.....

RE: WBB: Stanford 69 Colorado 66 on Williams half court buzzer beater - jonnyss - 02-16-2020

this espn link of the last 18 seconds may not work for long, but it has both of kiana's 3's.

lexie may not have had a great game overall, but her drive-and- (perfect long) dish to kiana set up the tying basket.

I have this vision of Tara in the last timeout doing her best Christopher Walken imitation:  I’ve got a fever... and the only prescription is More Kiana!

81Alum, best single shot finish since Kelley Suminski shot against Vandy in the 2004 Sweet 16. Ironic that it was Kelley that Kiana passed on the all time Stanford 3 point shots made. Tara used to have a photo of that shot in her office.

I tried to make a more precise estimate by looking carefully at the video clip. Her foot was level with the coach's box line when she took off to release the ball. That line is 38 feet from the end line, and the basket is 63 inches from the end line, so she took the shot ~32.75 feet up the sideline from the center of the basket. I further estimate she released it a little further from the sideline than where the women's 3-point line intersects the baseline (which is 51 inches from the sideline), so let's say 54 inches from the sideline. 25 feet - 54 inches = 20.5 feet along the baseline from the center of the basket. Using the Pythagorean theorem, this comes out to a distance from the center of the basket of 38.64 feet. For such a great shot, I'm going to call it 39 feet. (FWIW, the caption on the ESPN clip calls it a 40-footer)

RE: freddot5 - BosCard - 02-16-2020

An amazing finish no doubt but is anyone else troubled by how much difficulty we have had against a team that has only won 4 games in the PAC-12?  The Hulls can get pushed around on offense by physical defensive teams.  This is where we really really really really really miss Carrington and Jones.  They are big strong slashers who can drive through the contact and score.

I love this -- totally a Nerd Nation analysis. Great work!

How about a Steph Curry shot?

It reminds me most of Nick Robinson’s steal and about same distance game winning shot against Arizona. But the game tying three just before that play was a Childress three (after a Lottich steal). Kiana hit both of the big shots.
