They're all playing like freshmen

This is the time of year when Freshman is simply a class definition, players have played enough that they should not be playing like this is their first college game.  We seem to have no clue how to set up an offense against a zone. I can't believe how much standing around there is on our part. Give the ball to the point guard, everyone spreads out and stands there. They don't seem to be able to generate any offense doing this. Lots of bricks put up. If this is our best, we will have trouble getting past the 2nd round.

Is it mental?
If we tun it over enough, we limit rebounds

Oregon is really good.
Feels like Oregon needs to overlook an opponent for Oregon to lose.
Since Stanford is the #2 team in the conference, Oregon is really focused today.

My God, they've started to call moving screens.

Will wonders never cease?

Tara must’ve said something to the refs during the timeout about those moving screens. Down only 10 at the half.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Oregon Monday 6pm - Spiny_Norman - 02-24-2020

Kelly Graves complaining during the halftime interview about Oregon being called for moving screens. Where is the emoji for my crocodile tears?

That said, Oregon's defense has been solid.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Oregon Monday 6pm - qwerty49 - 02-24-2020

Gosh if only that last 3 were good we'd be only down 7, which is much better than when we were down 19......

And now I'm looking at what I typed, and I'm laughing at myself.  Sigh.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Oregon Monday 6pm - M T - 02-24-2020

Largest deficit was 19.  Down 10 is a moral victory

10 to each. We are ahead in rebounds. 4 rebounds for Sabrina, all DR

But part of it is how passive we’ve been against their zone until after that last timeout.

For us to be down by only 10 when they’re shooting 55% is... a moral victory.

Our girls are playing piss-poor. They are embarrassing to watch because they aren't even competitive - and we're supposed to be the #4 team in the country. What is most frustrating is that they can't even execute the basic skills of passing and shooting. STUPID passes drive me nuts - where their pass has absolutely no chance of connecting to a teammate. And to miss, what 12 shots in a row? Oregon played well on defense, but we missed 2 or 3 bunnies and a bunch of wide open mid range and 3 point shots. Oregon seldom makes stupid passes (often great ones) and is much more accurate shooting from all places on the court.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Oregon Monday 6pm - Viking_Guy - 02-24-2020

Well, here's a stat that's become all-too-typical of our offense.

In the first half: Stanford 0-0 FTs.  We haven't drawn a single shooting foul.

not only moving screen, called a carry

I think our team has Oregon-phobia. If we had made half of those 14 (?) consecutive misses, we'd be up. I don't think the Oregon defense has been that suffocating. Oregon-phobia. Hope we get over it.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Oregon Monday 6pm - M T - 02-24-2020

Jerome has 4 fouls in 4 minutes

I believe Oregon’s offense takes advantage of our help defense

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Oregon Monday 6pm - mbdude - 02-24-2020

Posts missing some makeable close in shots. Often wonder if Maya even looks at square on backboard when attempting shot

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Oregon Monday 6pm - Viking_Guy - 02-24-2020

Sorry, but Jerome can't be out there.  God, we miss Carrington and Jones in this game.  We have don't have a defensive option for a good stretch 4.

I'm sorry, but if your hand is on the bottom of the basketball during a dribble it is a carry.  As soon as the hand rotates under the ball it should be whistled.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Oregon Monday 6pm - mbdude - 02-24-2020

Would like to see prechtel get more experience defensively gainst Oregon, especially with the score as is. No better learning experience

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Oregon Monday 6pm - treetop11 - 02-24-2020

Our girls are too nice and don't have the same competitive spirit like Ionescu and the ducks. Did you see Sabrina jump off the bench to take care of the inbound pass? When you close to 5 =, how do you let Oregon run it up to 19 again - on your home court!
