Social distancing has given me enough time to sign up.  Ack, I should have done this much earlier -- clout per player increases in step-wise fashion per number of turns played...!

Stanford needs some help!

I just hit my 8th day in a row participating, and was just upgraded to a 2*. How are there 4* people when the whole competition has been going on for now 18 days? What is an "MVP"?

Also, I have tried clicking the discord link in the google sheet every day since participating, and it never works. The "invite is invalid."

Participation credit must have carried over from last year, which is how I'm a 4-star. An MVP, as I understand it, is the user selected by the random number generator out of the people who play in any given territory in each round.  At least that's how it used to work. If the RNG selects you, your team gets control of the territory that day and you get an MVP designation.  Although I think that recently a change was made to assign teams in a territory a value based on star ratings and defensive weights and use the RNG per team, then within the team's members choose an MVP randomly with everyone being equally weighted.

Getting enough MVP awards is another way to scale up your rating.

Here's an example from last night's roll to give others an idea of the mechanics behind the game:

Nebraska had a 90% chance of winning in Wazzu, but the RNG smiled upon Stanford.

About the discord server, lemme talk to you real quick via PM.

Update after Day 18.

Look at us sticking around! We even got the Farm back.

On the other hand, Texas, Wisconsin, and Oklahoma seem to have had bad luck this round.  The Sooners are even down to a single territory, making us no longer the last-place team among those still alive.

Can our lucky streak last? Check out this beauty in San José.

Our lucky streak did not last. But we're still holding on.

Update after Day 20.

It's been a few rounds now since any team's been eliminated.  We've come very close, along with Texas and Oklahoma.  Will the giants start eating each other once the next domino falls?

Update after Day 21.

It's Oklahoma's turn to be at the bottom of the team standings. Will they get unlucky before we do?

Update after Day 22.

They've got us on the run, with our forces split between Nevada and Alaska! Only team Oklahoma holds fewer territories. It sure feels like one of us will finally roll snake eyes soon.

Update after Day 23.

No changes for us. We hold the same two territories. There is talk that the devs might have to tweak the game mechanics to bring faster change to the map.

Update after Day 24.

The bad news is that we're down to just one territory, Nevada. And we're surrounded on seven sides by the unfriendly forces of Michigan and Nebraska.

But the good news is that by outlasting Team Oklahoma, which was eliminated in this past round, we've survived until the final 10! That is, if you don't count Team Chaos. Thank you, Cardinal faithful! Let's see if we can exceed expectations a little while longer.

Update ofter Day 25.

Stanford is on the march! It looks like we're heading east to mix things up a bit.  Who's ready for an expedition?

Update after Day 26.

The Stanford Expeditionary Force has reached the continental divide. Will we make it across the great plains alive?

Update after Day 27.

Man, this drive into eastern Colorado and toward the Sunflower State sure is flat and tedious.  And I thought driving up I-5 from LA to the Farm was featureless and bland.

Rent's cheaper in CO than it is in CA :)

RE: College Football RISK is back. Come play for Team Stanford. - Phogge - 04-19-2020

Never played RISK. Hard to tell from the map but does Stanford hold the Aleutians?

RE: College Football RISK is back. Come play for Team Stanford. - Canalejas - 04-19-2020

Nope. Each territory is colored in the color of the team that holds it, while outlined in the team’s second color. In this case, the islands are all outline (Ohio State’s) and part of the Alaska territory.

Since there is no FBS team in Alaska, the territory is instead the home of Team Chaos.

Thanks. Have worked on projects all over, from Juneau and Sitka to Homer. Wife produced a doc in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge along the Hulahula. Worth a trip when this is all over. Unlimited things to see.

Good luck in the game!

That sounds amazing.

Thanks for the well-wishes! I think when the game started to stall several rounds ago the devs began to anticipate that we may not get to a natural end point with a single surviving team.  So they've announced that it will run for only 50 rounds.  But with the time we have left we are still likely to see one or two teams eliminated, probably us and/or Clemson, which is why we're headed their way to pick a fight. Dabo, we're calling you out!

Update after Day 28.

A big decision awaits us.  Do we swing south for some Texas style BBQ?  Or do we maintain our eastward movement to claim some prized Kansas City BBQ? I did really enjoy the time I ate at Oklahoma Joe's in KC.

Oklahoma Joe’s is the best!!  I commuted to KC for 5 years and our crew usually dropped in once a week. We learned to get there before 11:15 for lunch to avoid the lines and get a table. The original location was formerly a gas station.
