42-18 at the half. Jones with 17. No Cardinal has more than 1 foul while 4 Huskies have 2 fouls. Williams finally broke the ice and hit a 3, which makes us 1-12 from 3. Most of the 3 point looks were wide open. Just missed.

Well, we were 1/12 from three point range, but dramatically increased our shooting percentage in the 2nd quarter. That plus 12 O-boards makes the difference and helped us out to a 26-4 run beginning late in the 1st quarter. We got our improved defense. Washington is down to 22% shooting, we are up to 45%. Jones already with 17.

3Ptrs misses are almost just passes in a game like this. We've missed 20 shots and have 12 offensive rebounds.

So glad to have a healthy Jones and a more experienced Belibi. We haven't played great but still have a 24 point lead. Last year we were so reliant on Williams and the 3-point shot for scoring. Williams is 1 for 10 having a half where she is missing 3's and layups. And as a team we are shooting 8% from 3. We had games like this last year with Williams off and the 3 off and the game would be 18-18 at the half. Thankfully we have other scoring options in Jones, Belibi and even Brink who had a nice post move.

Haley Jones outscoring UW by herself. Without her, the lead would only be 4. We are ice-cold from long-range and just making silly mistakes. I am willing to excuse that away to the early season and playing our first real competition, but these mistakes will have to be cleaned up as the season goes on, especially when we start facing UCLA, Arizona, Oregon, etc.

We are 4-25 from 3 and were up 67-33. How much would we be up if we didn't take those 3s and worked for a better shot?

Are you talking about the wide open corner 3's by Brink? You typically work an offense to find a look like that, or an easy layup.

That's one way to interpret it, but my point was that while she is having an outstanding day and there are games where you just rely on your superstar player, we can't fall into a pattern that we've had in the past where we are expecting just one player to bail us out, like we've been dependent on Kiana too much last season.
Fortunately, our defense has been pretty good today. But as I also said, it's still early and given how this season has been, it is normal to expect rustiness.

No, not Brink. This was my thought before Brink attempted a three pointer and I was only referencing attempts with a "nearly full shot clock". Maybe you can get a higher percentage shot when threes are not falling.

It's been garbage time in the last 6 minutes. Van Gytenbeek had a hot mess of a game. All in all, a nice win by the #1 Cardinal. Looking forward to more action from these superstars. Final score 83-50.

Agreed, it's quite impressive that we are dominating this game despite really poor shooting behind the arc. This team is really good, with ridiculous depth as well as star power. We didn't break 100 this time, but it was another game that ended in the 2nd quarter.

Quick thoughts before dinner:
Have we ever had a more comprehensively dominant offensive player than Jones? We've had better outside (Wiggins) and inside (Appel and the Ogwumike-x2), but I can't recall someone with such a well rounded game, let alone this early in her career. And our bigs needed the Triangle and some help from the point guard to make their shots, whereas Jones often does it all on her own. A revelation!
As for the rest: solid games from the rest of her classmates: each of Belibi, Prechtel and Jump had some nice contributions.
The other three classes went a combined 8-40. And I'm starting to worry Williams' late season slump last year had continued and can't just be attributed to overuse. She seems markedly less aggressive than she used to be, and her shots really haven't been falling. Hopefully she can iron this out, because against good teams, we can't afford 1-12 outputs from our honorable mention All-American...
Lots of "teachable moments" from this game for the seniors, juniors, and frosh. Sophomores should be exempt from push-ups on practice this week! :D

Jones and Belibi combined for 41 of the 83.
At one point, I believe they said they were responsible for 25 of 31, and then Jones scored again!
