Transition defense off of turnovers
The Ducks are averaging almost 21 points a game off of opponent turnovers,
and a net 13 point advantage.

Stop second chance points
No stats here, but against UCLA and WSU Sabally thrived on second chance points.
(Dugalic, too).
Keep their bigs off the boards.

Pressure Oregon's three three-point shooters
Boley, Mikesell, and Papao are combining of almost 20 ppg on threes.
Pressure from Anna, Kiana, and the Hulls becomes critical.

For some reason, I think Stanford wins.
And if Brink plays, I think Stanford rolls.
(Am uncharacteristically optimistic when it comes to this Stanford team).

"Due to COVID-19 protocols and contract tracing following its Jan. 3 game at Arizona State, the Stanford women's basketball program will be without three student-athletes for today's game against Oregon."

Hate to see this news. First and foremost, I hope these student athletes are—and stay—healthy. I have to say I'm confused though. Given the nature of basketball gameplay, how can it be that exposure would be limited to only three? Given which players were on the court for most of the game, this is clearly bad news for today's matchup. Of course, it is more importantly bad news for young women that we all care about. I certainly hope that everyone stays well.

Seriously weird, isn't it?

I mean, is it something like "SU player X played 15 minutes while ASU player Z was also playing?"

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Oregon in Santa Cruz, Friday 11:30am - M T - 01-08-2021

More likely 3 players rode in car with coach X who then tested positive.  (I presume they sleep 2 to a room, so that doesn't match.)

I expect we'll see better mask usage by Stanford players today.

Brink in uni in warm-ups

Lacie starting instead of Lexie, so I believe Lexie must be one of the three held out

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Oregon in Santa Cruz, Friday 11:30am - M T - 01-08-2021

Positioning bad for O&D rebounds.  Expecting to cut through but it isn't happening.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Oregon in Santa Cruz, Friday 11:30am - TheFarm07 - 01-08-2021

No interruption of play for the first seven minutes of the game. We are getting burned by a couple of Oregon offensive rebounds leading to second chance points for the Ducks. Our shooting is also a bit off to start with.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Oregon in Santa Cruz, Friday 11:30am - M T - 01-08-2021

Cameras on bench side, thus we don't see who is on bench.

Damn Sling. Trying to rewind has given me 3 sets of the same two ads in a row. I'm sure the game has been going on..

Brink in and playing

Oregon's buzzer beater expands their lead to 20-14 (I think - Pac-12 score says 20-16, but I think it is 20-14) after one quarter.

The Ducks' 5 o-boards and our 31% shooting compared to their 43% shooting is what's putting us in a hole right now.

the no interruption was a battle of wills of the coaches:  "I'm not calling a timeout, my team doesn't need it!"  A bit ridiculous. Finally, Oregon coach directed the foul, knowing a media timeout due.

Ducks playing WAY better; Kiana making dribbling too much and took a couple bad shots (liked her and-one just now).  Stanford team looks hurried/frazzled.  Odd.  The EoQ1 bucket by Oregon hurt, too.

Doh!

The key for Stanford will be Haley; need her to play like #1 recruit in the nation.

Ducks lead 20-14 at and of 1st.

Great to see Brink in action, moving very fluidly and making a difference on both ends of the floor.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Oregon in Santa Cruz, Friday 11:30am - BostonCard - 01-08-2021

Yeah, I thought the and-1 cutting the lead to 3 was going to give us momentum into the second quarter...and then the heave at the buzzer took it away.

Haley Jones 1/5 with 2 points.

4.5 for an opponent inbound and no one slows down or guards the ball carrier?  Sigh...

Oregon KILLING Stanford with O-boards and second-chance buckets (including treys).  Brutal.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Oregon in Santa Cruz, Friday 11:30am - TheFarm07 - 01-08-2021

Right now, based on who's been playing and a couple glimpses of the bench, I am thinking the 3 players out are:

Lexie
Hannah Jump
Alyssa Jerome

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Oregon in Santa Cruz, Friday 11:30am - martyup - 01-08-2021

We clawed back to tie it up 30-30.  This looks like it's going down to the wire.  Prechtel with some good blocks and buckets.

 Yes confirmed by the announcers

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Oregon in Santa Cruz, Friday 11:30am - M T - 01-08-2021

These officials are really bad. Calling fouls by style, not contact.

We are shooting without having rebounders.

Good D by Prechtel.
