Chuck Shea led the Coast in rushing in 1957. Ironically the starter and preseason All American Lou Valli was hurt early. Shea stepped in and Chuck Taylor's last team went 6-4.
What is the Dot's NFL highlight?

In 1969 Howie Williams played fullback along side Bubba Brown at half back along side a QB by the name of Jim Plunkett.

My memory is failing. I remember the opening play against USC quite well. I don't remember it going for a touchdown. Bill Shoemaker, who had been pressed into service because of an injury to the regular place kicker, missed the first of three chippie field goals in a 27-24 loss. Simpson saved the Trojan a$$ with an improvised halfback pass.
According to the novelist Thomas Mallon, Washington was Condoleeza Rice's 'go to' escort during the Bush years.

Bill Shoemaker the kicker was a soph back up linebacker by the name of Steve Horwitz who filled in for the injured Bill Shoemaker., who had been pressed into service because of an injury to the regular place kicker, missed the first of three chippie field goals in a 27-24 loss. Simpson saved the Trojan a$$ with an improvised halfback pass. Horwitiz became the regular kicker in his junior and senior years, he accounted for all of Stanford points in their 1970 win over UCLA 9-7, and he also kick field goals in wins over USC and Ohio State in the Rose Bowl (that is justice for the younger man at the time)

Washington easily beat the corner but Plunk’s pass was a trifle too long. Washington caught it on the tips of his fingers but the effort caused him to lose his footing and not get into the EZ. Horowitz made a number of key FG’s in his career.
Howie Williams made a number of key runs in the ‘69 BG on the last drive with Stanford ahead after Penhall went crazy in the second half for Cal. The drive salted away the game. Williams graduated and Hillary Shockley was the ‘70 FB.
