I wouldn't say my appreciation for Monty has grown as I've gotten older. I'd say my appreciation for him has grown as there continue to be more years of mediocrity following his departure.

Trent Johnson seemed to be moving in the right direction. Until he wasn't. But the point to all of this is that Coach Haase is the third HC since Montgomery who has struggled. Indeed, where the program is at this moment, five years into the Haase era, is on a Streetcar Named Respectable, going...uh...somewhere other than The Dance. If the NIT stirs your post-season blood as a season-ticket holder, I supposed you're OK. As a former season ticket holder for 16 years, I see nothing to get excited about in this program. I wish the best for Jerod Haase.

I had season tickets for 10 years. When I cancelled them in 2012 I got a call from Muir. I told him I wouldn't take free tickets as long as Dawkins remained on the sideline because it wasn't worth my time. I'm not quite there yet but I'm close.

Another point of comparison - performance in the P10/12 tournament. Let's look at records.
Mike Montgomery 7-6
Trent Johnson 3-4
Johnny Dawkins 6-8
Jerod Haase 1-4
In general, Stanford has fared poorly in the P10/12 tournament across multiple coaching regimes, only winning once and finishing runner up once. It seems like years since Stanford actually beat a higher seeded team in the conference tournament.

As best as I can tell, these are the years that the Stanford men have defeated a better seed in the conference tournament:
1990: #6 defeated #3 Cal
2009: #9 defeated #8 OSU
2010: #7 defeated #2 ASU
2014: #6 defeated #3 ASU
And these are the years that the Stanford men lost to a worse seed:
2003: #2 lost to #7 USC
2011: #8 lost to #9 OSU
2013: #8 lost to #9 ASU
If we discard the 8 vs 9 games, Stanford has only been involved in 4 upsets in the 22-year history of the tournament.

Well, that's why they're called "upsets."

Right, Mick and I should have connected the dots. To get to the conference finals--whether or not it gets a first-round bye--it is extremely likely that Stanford will have to win two upset games, something Stanford has never done in the 22 year history of the tournament. This is a counter to my (naive) belief that we haven't seen Stanford at its full potential, and this is the year that we can make history if everyone is healthy.
