I would imagine that forecasting offensive linemen could be the most difficult aspect of recruiting. Most casual football fans can probably look at tape of running back or quarterback or middle linebacker and see the talent leap off the screen. But if we're talking about an offensive lineman who's 6'6" and 280 pounds, he's likely obliterating whichever seventeen-year-old is unlucky enough to be squaring off against him on Friday night. Yes, the elite players get together at camps, but even then, given the expectation that these high school seniors are going to need to gain at least thirty pounds over the ensuing years, I'd imagine it's difficult. So maybe it isn't surprising that three-stars and five-stars occasionally turn out otherwise.

Injuries loomed large for the Stanford OL in recent years, unfortunately. It is also a good sign that Shaw hired an OL coach from an NFL team whose QB took a big step forward in production, which elevated OL probably enabled. I mean...anyone who helps make the Bills OL look good... ;)

I've been meaning to post this. It's a pretty interesting longread-ish profile of the new O-Line coach
Quote: Loyola graduate and Buffalo Bills assistant coach Terry Heffernan (Class of 1999) found his career calling when he was 11 years old.
While attending a football camp at Bowling Green State University, where his uncle, Terry Malone, was an assistant coach, Heffernan experienced an epiphany.
“I asked him is this what he did for a job,” Heffernan said. “From that day on, I wanted to be a coach.”
He never wavered, either.
“I’m a pretty stubborn human being,” Heffernan said. “After I decided what I wanted to do, I structured my life to put myself in the best position to accomplish that.”

I'm always going to advocate that Stanford recruit the smartest football players out of Texas every year. Hope Connor can choose what I think is the most valuable option in front of him!
Great piece on Heffernan. Makes me think that he's coming out here for hopefully a long stint and a great education for his kids.
