Damn, now I am left wishing that there weren't any at-large teams, LOL.
Still, nice to get in through the front door as an automatic qualifier.

Whatch them seed Stanford and Cal on the same side of the bracket.
Hey, wait a minute. This is from the NCAA website:
https://www.ncaa.com/live-updates/waterpolo-men/nc/2021-nc-mens-water-polo-championship-scores-schedule-and-updates
Quote:Teams who qualify for this year's tournament will be revealed on Sunday, March 7 via press release.
That's today! Where's the bracket already?
Found it. Four teams from our conference are in the NCAA tournament! We have a bye, and then have to play UCLA if they beat CBU.
https://www.ncaa.com/brackets/waterpolo-men/nc/2021
Quote:In the first opening-round game, UCLA will take on California Baptist University (7-4) at 1:00 p.m. PT. The winner will advance to the semifinals where it will face top-seeded Stanford (6-3) on March 20 at 2:00 p.m. PT. In the second opening-round game, USC (6-8) will host Bucknell (4-1) at 4:00 p.m. PT. That winner will advance to the second semifinal where it will meet No. 2 California (8-4) on March 20 at 5:00 p.m. PT.

Bracket is up -
https://www.ncaa.com/brackets/waterpolo-men/nc/2021
Stanford plays in one semifinal 3 pm next Saturday vs the winner of UCLA and Cal Baptist
Cal plays in the other semifinal vs. the winner of USC and Bucknell
So all 4 top MPSF teams made it.

I guess we didn't read that criteria correctly. I guess Stanford, CBU, and Bucknell got in as automatic qualifiers. The 3 at large bids went to Cal, UCLA, and USC. Three other conferences withdrew their automatic qualification status.
It is probably the most fair way to run it. The best four teams are in the tourney. Let's hope we can keep up the winning streak.

It just doesn't sit right with me that a 6-8 team gets invited to the playoffs. What is this, the SEC and bowl season?

So, it's probably safe to assume that the semis will be Stanford vs. UCLA and kal vs. U$C.
Can we do a deja vu tourney results? Odds will probably say it's unlikely, but we'll see what happens.

It is weird when the NCAA tournament is just a redo of the MPSF tournament.
Of course that may be better than what would have been the case in 2020, when the NCAA tournament would have been an extended crowning of the MPSF champ as the national champ.

The Champion of all the fall sports that got pushed back to the spring (women's volleyball, cross country, men's water polo) will have a chance to win two national titles in one calendar year.

Oh. So there will be another water polo season in 2021?
