I read it's because no one spent enough time near him to require quarantine. And even if they did, they didn't.

If this were Stanford, I'm sure the entire time would be in quarantine.
Didn't we have an assistant coach test positive?

Respect/disrespect is overrated. If you’re thinking about it 20 seconds into a game then you aren’t doing your job. I think I turned off to the NBA when guys starting flexing after dunking basically saying, “Look at me.” I can’t stand Belichek but all he says is, “Do your job.” That’s the essence of winning.
All you have to know about Geno you can get by watching the clip of him chewing out a young female student writer in a press conference years ago. He’s a pig. If the Stanford girls do their job, continue to play great defense and protect and catch the ball they will be OK.

Perhaps, but motivation is not. I suspect that Haley's occasional lackluster performance is the result of intermittent lapses in motivation. I want her to go into the tournament with a chip on her shoulder and something to prove.

If you can't get motivated for a national friggin championship, there's something wrong with you. I agree with Phogge.
Haley may have some intermittent lapses (whether they are in motivation or nerves or focus or something else, I don't know that we can say). But I would actually say there is a problem if a couple minutes into the game she is focused on not having been named an All American than on the game at hand.

While I tend to agree that motivation by disrespect is one of those sports cliches that don't seem to be based upon anything; still the point of motivation isn't what happens within a game, but rather what one does in preparation leading up to a game (and a season, and career-long).

From "The Last Dance", Jordan (and his teammates and opponents) acknowledged that he would conjure up slights just to motivate himself to dominate.

Me too. While "bulletin board" material sounds important to fans, the athletes are already way beyond that in their level of effort.

I agree that bulletin board comments are generally overblown by the fans, but they can definitely add an extra layer of motivation for players and coaches as well. This "slight" is very general and unrelated to a specific team, so I don't think it will have any impact on our performance in the tournament. I know it will not take any of Tara's time or thoughts in preparing the team. However, Tara is not above using the other team and their words as an extra factor for motivating and focusing the team. After the conference tournament win over UCLA, she specifically noted that our team was "tough" and in the locker room she told the team that they carried "tough" around in their pockets. One of the players also said that Tara told them they needed to avoid being the nice girls from Stanford. Clearly, all of the pre-game focus on UCLA's toughness was an issue for Stanford, and I personally loved hearing those comments because I hate teams that play maul ball. Stanford was aggressive in fighting for rebounds, loose balls, and interrupting passes on defense all without playing like the Detroit Pistons teams of the 80s as some described UCLA's style. The toughness issue clearly gave our team good focus on doing what was needed to counter UCLA's style of play.
Cheers,
Pete F.

Having competed in both college and professional sports, I will rest on my personal experience with motivation.

Fair enough. Hard to argue with that. I guess it just depends on how the individuals are "wired".

Seems like it is one of those pieces of received wisdom that is impossible to prove or disprove. And certainly in the cases that something bulletin-board worthy is said about a team, and that team does win (especially if it is an upset), human behavior being what it is, there will be a tendency to link the two. But of course, all the other times that something bullet-board worthy was said about the team, but the team lost, you never hear about it again.
If this type of external motivation were so important, then players would never trash talk, since it would just serve to motivate their opponents.

Everyone of us can get motivated by different factors. If the Bootleg offers 2 tickets to WBB final four to "the best" poster, many of us would be motivated to win the contest. However, if the prize was 2 tickets to the NCAA women's fencing championship, not as many would be motivated to win the contest.
I do believe that some of our players may take not being named to an all-american team as a snub and may be motivated to go out there and try and prove them wrong.
We don't know what buttons can be pushed to motivate each individual player. I have confidence that Tara does and will push the right buttons to motivate each player.

The motivation I expect is that when we play teams with an All-American player or two in the tournament, our team takes special pride in shutting those players down!

UConn had another case in their orbit today as someone in assistant coach Shea Ralph's family tested positive. She's leaving the San Antonio bubble, but at what point does UConn itself have to leave the bubble after two positive cases in their orbit? Ideally, they should be able to play, but at this point you have to ask how they're making it safe for everyone else when there's clearly a strain going around the UConn Team.

They (ESPiN, and NCAA) will first delay the start of the tourney before kicking out Yukon.

That's two of their four coaches down. One scenario would be that all coaches in their bubble are unable to be with the team. Then what? You can't just send another person to join the bubble. They have to have 7 days of consecutive testing. I believe I saw the limit as 34 in your travel team for this purpose. The team picture shows 12 players and 4 coaches. That leaves another 18 spots in their travel team that may be filled by others (trainers, team physician, ...). I don't know if there are other requirements for coaches and whether any others on the travel team may have those requirements.
I really hope that this doesn't become a critical issue.
From what Lorcan posted, it seems unlikely there is a direct tie between the two cases.

If all UConn's coaches are unavailable, I'm sure Paige Bueckers can coach the team (and drive the bus too if needed).
