As written here, this assumes the Card will win on Sunday. I, for one, firmly believe that Utah Valley is not Harvard and none of their players are a reincarnation of Feester (sp?), but just blithely assuming that the Card is going to win is tempting a dreadful fate.

No worries here.

What gets missed by the press in Stanford's loss to Harvard that year was that Stanford was without three starters (O. Scott, V. Nygaard and K. Folkl).  Results would have been different if two of the three had been able to play, and most likely Stanford would have one of the three been healthy)

yes; I wonder how our men's team would do against Pac-12 teams if they were down 3 starters? ;)

As I recall, two of those three went down in the last 3 or 4 days before the game.  I think had the game been a few days later, Stanford would have won.  As it was, they had little chance to adjust to different players & different positions.

But, the reason I brought up that year was that the same thing could happen this year to any team if COVID prevents some players from playing.  (But, it seems the NCAA has made that less likely for the women by choosing the testing they did.  It appears they'd rather have them play with COVID.  If all 5 starters got asymptomatic COVID, the test appears it would only detect 2 of them.  The other 3 would still play.)

Oodles of good publicity and commentary about the Stanford team during the games preceding ours.  I'm much more used to fawning over UConn.  Of course, usually they say the tournament is "wide open" and it does feel that way to me.

CBS Weekend News Sunday evening played excerpts from an interview/mini profile of Tara. The full interview has been posted to the CBS News website.

Hopefully UConn dispatches their opponent in quick fashion so that game doesn't drag past 7:00 pm.

After watching some low level volleyball, I'm ready for some high level basketball.  Go Card.

OMG, we've got Missy!

Nice start for the Card. 15-3 halfway through the first Q.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Utah Valley Sunday 7pm ESPN Rd. 1 - 81alum - 03-21-2021

A great start against this poor, overmatched team from Utah.  I think getting a big win and getting everyone into the game would be very helpful--almost like a preseason warm-up for what would be 5 very difficult games in a row to come.

Our length, speed, and agility is obvious when contrasted against Utah Valley.  There are half a dozen teams in the Pac 12 that did not make the tournament that are more gifted than our opponent tonight.  That is how automatic qualifiers work.  And even their coach thinks Cal Baptist should have been chosen--and we do have respect for that program.

Ki just set the record for three pointers, passing Wiggins.

29-9 after the first quarter.  The starters were out half way through the first.

We are 7-11 from three point range, killing the Utah Valley zone.  I hope we can bottle it and use it in future games.

6 players have scored already.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Utah Valley Sunday 7pm ESPN Rd. 1 - martyup - 03-21-2021

We are on pace to score 116.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Utah Valley Sunday 7pm ESPN Rd. 1 - TheFarm07 - 03-21-2021

We lead 29-9 after one quarter. Our shooting is on point - 7/11 from long range with 6 players already chipping in with a 3-pointer.

Tara has already quickly emptied the bench, everyone except Jerome and Emma-Nnopu has entered the game and it won't be long until they see action.

Most notable and as 81alum pointed out, Kiana's two 3 pointers propelled her to first in made 3-pointers in Stanford history past Candice Wiggins.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Utah Valley Sunday 7pm ESPN Rd. 1 - martyup - 03-21-2021

1 quarter. 1 turnover. 1 personal foul.

So much for the saying that big dome stadiums hurt your 3-pt shooting because your depth perception  is affected.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Utah Valley Sunday 7pm ESPN Rd. 1 - 81alum - 03-21-2021

13 assists on 16 made baskets so far.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Utah Valley Sunday 7pm ESPN Rd. 1 - yvonne - 03-21-2021

Were the national championship teams this dominant?

Coming in cold from 3 was one of my big worries for this tourney.  Check that off the list.  I would like to see us work the ball into the paint more, just for practice.

Don't forget, this is the #16 seed.  Pretty impressive shooting though.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs. Utah Valley Sunday 7pm ESPN Rd. 1 - 81alum - 03-21-2021

53-20 at the half.

12-21 from three point range.

Everyone has played.
