WE lost to both UNC (in 2000) and Alabama (in 2004) as 1 seeds, but while the Alabama loss was a 3 point loss, that wasn't final until Dan Grunfeld's last second shot missed, the loss against UNC was 60-53 in a game that wasn't that close (UNC shot .440, while we shot .353).

That was one team's issue, this weekend is a full conference significantly outperforming their seeds.

The Pac-12 is super close to having a great weekend. I don't think any of the teams will actually win the tournament, but if this was any other Power 5 conference they would be getting a lot more first weekend hype and love.

Oregon could be the first team to win the NCAA championship in only five games since they expanded the field to 64 (I assume).

It gets better. Even with the resounding loss, Colorado was in position to redeem their season in a big way, as they were in play to set the single-season record in free-throw percent by a team. They had a freshman reserve on the line in the last 30 seconds and if he had made both free throws then Colorado would have had the new record. Unfortunately the guy missed them both and Colorado will have to settle behind 1984 Harvard for an honorable second place.

It sux for the P12 that Oregon and U$C will face each other in the S16. Unless there are 9+ conference teams in the tourney, conference teams should not face each other before the E8.

Looks like the Pac-12 will have 4 teams in the Sweet Sixteen. Maybe Stanford could have made it to the 2nd round.

Few thoughts. Oregon and USC destroyed their opponents. They looked like legit #1 or #2 seeds beating up 7, 8, 9 or 10 seeds. I am assuming USC can "hold on" to beat Kansas given they are up by quite a lot with ~4 minutes to play.

Pac-12 may just have a team in the Final Four based on the play this weekend. I believe with USC winning the Pac-12 will have at least one elite 8 team, since Oregon and USC play each other in the Sweet 16.

Next up, I don't think Stanford would have done well in the tournament based on how it was all falling apart at the end. However, the Pac-12's strength does suggest that finishing 6th was a decent showing after all. The 6th best team from the Pac-12 probably should have been a play-in team. And all of that means I am pretty confident Muir will see the glass half full world I just shared and will see Haase's most recent season as pretty respectable.

I am not expecting Haase to be terminated, but the Pac-12's weekend probably saved his job if it was ever in doubt.

If Haase snared the Mobley bros, would Stanford have made the NCAA tournament? I'm thinking yes, but not completely convinced they would have overcome Stanford's MBB coaching, and curious what y'all think.

Could be that, or it could be that a single elimination tournament has a big variance in it's outcomes. All year long on this board in in the press we have heard that it was a "down" year in the PAC-12. Lots of head shaking. Now, we are being told the PAC-12 must be pretty good relative to the rest pf the nation. Not sure I believe it. I think this year everybody is down, and there is a lot of really bad basketball being played in the land.

Now they have reseeded the Sweet 16, and the Pac-12 occupies 4 of the bottom 5 slots.

And this morning ESPN has quickly moved to focusing on changes to the NFL Draft projections. Given the weekend's result football is likely a topic BigTen fans want to focus on this week, so I guess they know their customers.

If there was ever a doubt that the ESPN is composed of malignant clowns, this dispels it. Ranking all the PAC-12 schools at the bottom could be justified by the argument "Their regular season record and strength of schedule justify the rankings given" no matter who they beat, but not when they put Oral Roberts (a 15 seed originally) above them. I guess they are testing the theory discussed elsewhere on this board that disrespect produces motivation. I hope that one (or more) of the PAC-12 teams can survive to be a thorn in the side of ESPN down the road. However, at this point making them look like fools is redundant.
