Up 3-0 in the tiebreak!
I think she can't jump (the cramp?)

4-2 Choy.

6-3 Choy.

6-6. I don't need this stress before a final four match.

Choy goes down 8-6. Damn it. But what a warrior.

Crazy match, gutsy performance, but all those missed opportunities are really tough. Choy was up 6-2 or 6-3 in the match clinching tiebreaker? It looked like she was too tired to serve, she was just lobbing them. Pepperdine is certainly a beatable team for us in the future, but it would've been nice to have that one. All that being said, we've got a big hill to climb if we want to compete with UCLA or NC.

I’ll focus on the fact that Gordon came out and absolutely dominated a top 10 player. That was cool. Higuchi did her thing. We overperformed a bit in doubles. Those are all positives.
Choy was battling, and gave us absolutely everything she had. I can’t be mad about that. Proud, really proud of that effort.
It’s Blake and Geller that bum me out here. Would’ve liked to see better performances there for sure. But we learn from losses. Can we learn some hard lessons here that pay off when we play UCLA and USC next weekend?

Playing Oregon now, and we’re down 0-1 after doubles.
How do you win the doubles point over a team of Pepperdine’s caliber but lose it to one of Oregon’s? Sigh.... Gotta find four singles wins, and Higuchi is out of the singles lineup.

The doubles point wasn't even close. Not sure what happened.

Maybe not quite fair to Oregon, who just lost 4-3 to Cal and has had a few good results. But still. We should win a match like this 6-1 or 7-0, even if we’re not at full strength.
Oregon 1, Stanford 0
1. Gordon trails 5-7, 0-0
2. Arbuthnott leads 6-1, 1-2
3. Blake leads 6-3, 1-0
4. Choy trails 2-6, 1-2 (surprised she’s in the lineup after that marathon match; looks like she’s not totally fresh)
5. Madurawe trails 5-7, 0-0
6. Shin leads 6-1, 3-0
We’re going to need to win a three-setter. Maybe two. Sigh....

Stanford 3, Oregon 2
1. Gordon lost 5-7, 3-6
2. Arbuthnott won 6-1, 6-3
3. Blake won 6-3, 6-2
4. Choy tied 2-6, 6-4, 0-0
5. Madurawe trails 5-7, 4-4
6. Shin won 6-1, 6-1
Just need one more!

Stanford 3, Oregon 3
4. Choy leads 2-6, 6-4, 4-3
5. Madurawe loses 5-7, 6-7
All comes down to Choy in the third again....

She did retire in her match vs Pepperdine, so she might be hurt.

Choy tied 4-4 in the third.
Obviously, I really hope we win. But this a clear disappointment. Only a few games to see whether it’s a disaster, too.

Did Gordon really lose in straight sets to someone ranked 121?
RE: Women’s Tennis: Pepperdine and Oregon -

Trails 4-5 now.... one game from Stanford’s worst team loss in a long, long time.
And that’s that. Goodness. I know Geller wasn’t at full strength and Choy couldn’t have been, but a team with designs on a title just doesn’t lose this match.
Might be the first-ever win for Oregon over Stanford? I certainly can’t recall one. Unmitigated disaster.

Choy loses the last three games and third set 6-4. I feel for her, losing the last match twice in a row.

Stanford has never failed to host in the postseason. Unless this team turns it around in a hurry, we’ll see an end to that streak this season.

not a good loss for Gordon at #1.
