Snyder and Daulet T, members of the championship team, not qualifying for the "starting five."
At this point I believe the focus should simply be on making the match play rounds. It is a somewhat different game at that point and I think one that favors both the women's and men's teams.
Men kicked ass today. Four players in the top 20, Vilips shot low round of the tournament (65) and is in second.
Regarding NCAAs, I'm not sure the men's team will qualify for match play. They'll have to play like this week if they even want to make it past regionals

Based on rankings, the men are playing just as expected. They are the 3rd highest rated team in the field. They had the 3rd best team score today. They sit in 3rd place.
But the result so far is encouraging because the team is playing its best golf of the season and it does seem that Coach Ray has a solid top 4 of Brown, Ng, Vilips and Thorbjornsen and some decent choices for the 5th spot among Shimp, Tuleubayev and Menon. Without a fall season and with a shortened spring season, it has been tougher to identify a clear top 5. Only one player (Vilips) has played in every tournament this season. Only Brown and Thorbjornsen have played in even 4 of the 5 tournaments.

Heck, now averaging 69.9 per round, is on track to break Andrea Lee's school record 71.16.
If she sets the new record, the odds of it being broken next season are excellent;
Rose Zhang, the world's top-ranked amateur, arrives this fall.

I'm not sure Ng is a solid 4th. I'd say that 2 of Ng, Shimp, and Menon will be on the roster for Pac-12s and NCAA Regionals. I'd say Shimp has the inside edge because he's been there, done that.

Win, I was going off of results this spring before this week's tournament. Ng has finished 36, 14, 14 with a scoring average of 71.11 in those 3 events compared to Menon (73.56) and Shimp (74.22). But Coach Ray may include other factors like experience. At the P12s there will be extra room because it has also been a 6 count 5 event, like the Western Intercollegiate.

Another day of strong play for the men's team. Three top 10s and a second place team finish. Coach Ray appears to have them starting to peak at the right time.

Zhang in contention at the Lotte. Course being dominated.

I am much more optimistic about this team than I was 6 weeks ago. Great success in NCAA golf happens when shooting par on tough courses. Pasatiempo was tough. It's a brobdingnagian step forward that Shimp played well. It looks like Snyder might be rounding into form. I could see a regionals line up of Brown, Vilips, Thorbejornsen, Shimp and Snyder playing well enough to get to the NCAA championships. Ng will be considered too, based on performance at the Pac 12s at the end of the month, but I would like seniors Shimp and Snyder to defend their 2019 championship.

Pasa usually plays tough, like any slope-y course that was designed a hundred years ago that didn't need to contend with today's slick greens. 16 is basically unputtable if the pin's in the bottom of the three tiers.

I believe that the P12 men's tournament will be at Mayacama in Santa Rosa, a Nicklaus design. I have not played it but if it is like other Nicklaus courses it will be penal. You want to avoid turning bogeys into bigger numbers. Anyone with familiarity with Mayacama?
RE: Stanford golf -
Phogge - 04-15-2021
Only familiar with bogeys and their cousins.
Lotte on Golf Channel now. Round over, surprise leader and Zhang 9 under, in the hunt.

I would be VERY surprised if Snyder is on the roster going forward. He played well at Pasa, but that's really the only time this year that he's played well in more than one round. He also blew up in his last round at the Goodwin on his home course. Ng and Menon have been much more consistent and reliable in this relatively short season.

You cannot play Snyder in place of Ng. Ng averaged more than a half stroike per round better than Sndyer last season and is averaging 3.5 strokes per round better this season. And Snyder and Shimp, like Daulet T, were merely 1-2 in match play.

Yes men are playing Pac-12s at Mayacama. Women are play at Stanford. I'm looking forward to being a walking scorer and fingers crossed I'll get one of the Stanford ladies in my group.
I expect the men to compete for the title. I expect the women to run away with it.
