When I attended junior golf camp at Oklahoma State years ago, Labron Harris shared this poem with us to emphasize the importance of the mental side of the game. I still can quote most of it. But it was not written by Arnold Palmer. It is attributed to a mostly unknown poet named Walter Wintle.

What is IS is unalloyed B.S. More crap slopping around the Internet. Didn't Walter Wintle write a gossip column? Oh, yes, and he also was begging Herb Caen for a job in his sad, declining years. Stanford wins four, God-willing and the creek don't rise. I'd bet on three. As Vin Scully would have said about Stanford depth: "If you sliced bread that thin you'd starve to death".

(Yes, Scully really said this, but not about Stanford. He was referring to an errant umpire's call.)

It is much worse if it was a strategy. That would certainly be an "error" leading to a bad outcome, as opposed to a possibly unavoidable bad outcome due to lack of prospects.

I think you are confusing poet Walter Wintle with gossip columnist Walter Winchell.

I have no real idea of how we will do this year - I think so much turns on whether we have a real QB. If McKee turns into the second coming of Luck like some are saying, we could have a Rose Bowl-type season, but if he is more middling/needs development, look out below! This being said, its always interesting to listen to what other fans are saying about their teams in the Pac 12. This was a podcast by Huskies fans after they were beaten by Stanford last season at home. Substitute the names of the teams and the players, and you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between some of the criticisms of our defense over the last few years - weak safety play, poor tackling, LB and DL getting blown away by OL etc.

The two keys: Can they run the ball. And can they stop the run. I’m more bullish on the former.
