My best guess after watching the many replays many times, is that it was probably a fumble - though like the refs I couldn't see anything to be sure.

Not quite sure which play you are referring to here. Third down was an overthrow on a crossing pattern at the back of the end zone without much interaction between DB and WR. Did you mean the second down post-up attempt to Humphreys in the right corner?
Or are you talking about an earlier third down play?
You are right. It was the second down play. I coiuld claim the extra down fooled me but it would be the wrong direction.

What could Max Browne (former USC QB) be referring to in this thread?

I thought there was already a rule against the defense verbally trying to induce false starts.

There is a delay of game penalty on the books for defenses simulating a snap count. In the thread with Max Browne, Peyton Pelluer says that WSU was called for it 3 times when they played USC in LA in 2018. But maybe the officials yesterday did not consider yelling "move!" to be mimicking a snap count.

I'd like to know if yelling "move" was the only thing the Ducks were doing.  Getting offensive linemen to jump is a nefarious form of cheating that is common at lower levels of football.  I remember encountering this in youth football and high school.  For some reason refs are not very sympathetic to complaints about this behavior.

In baseball you get back at them by hitting them. And for the guy who said that a duck fan was blowing a whistle did you tell a red coat.

I got a duck fan ejected four years ago. I swear a bit but this kid was atrocious. Section 234 and you’re out of here! A pipsqueak who I could have turned into gravy when I was younger...

Pointing it out to them didn't do squat when UCLA fans were doing it in 2019.

What do you expect?  It’s Oregon…..

Hey, right now Beavers lead the North. And they look pretty good.  That would be a story…..

maybe some of you remember a game in the late 1970s or early 1980s during a home game vs. Washington when Washington desperately needed to stop the clock, and a Washington player feigned injury on literally every play.  I recall my grandfather laughing about it, saying that he thought Washington would run out of players.

Early 1980's?  You don't need to go back that far.  Enjoy this, courtesy of the team across the bay.

Cal player fakes injury

We should not cast stones, I think Stanford was accused of feigning injury against the Ducks(?) several years ago, after a Stanford player appeared to be injured but was able to re-enter the game after sitting out one play.

Likewise, Stanford was accused of feigning injury in the latter parts of the UW game in 2013 when the Cardinal prevailed 31-28 at home, with the Dawgs driving and just falling short at the end of the game.

That may have been the game I was thinking of.  I couldn't remember if it was a game against Oregon or Washington (or if it happened more than once).

BTW, I'm not saying that our guys feigned injury; I recall being somewhat indignant at the accusation.  But we were certainly accused of it.  Maybe we were not as transparent as Cal was.

You want Duck fans to see this?  Post it on Addicted to Quack.  :-D  I dropped by their game thread on Saturday and most of them think the refs handed Stanford the game.

I would say half of them thought this.  There was also a contingent claiming that Brown and Cristobal handed the game to Stanford with their bone-headed decisions in the final minutes of the 4th quarter.  And a subset of this latter group stated that the game never should have been close enough for Stanford to have a last-minute chance, so it was an overall team failure.  In any case, there was significant wailing and gnashing of teeth over on ATQ.

O, and a few intrepid Duck fans actually credited Stanford's no-quit mentality in the final minutes.  But, yeah, the refs, Cristobal and Brown were the favorite scapegoats.
