I feel like some bitter Oklahoma fan might be comparing Riley to David Shaw, given that both took over for coaches who "really" built the programs into a championship contenders (but then I really doubt such a fan would know who David Shaw is..).
Lincoln Riley is a home run hire for the media and fans, but I do think that given his youth, ambition and *perhaps* prickly personality this could all blow up (in a bad way) for SC.
It is at the very least interesting, so kudos to them for that, I guess.

Riley is bringing Alex Grinch with him as defensive coordinator. Stanford fans will remember Grinch as the DC at WSU from 2015 to 2017. His defenses were very active and gave Stanford fits.

I remember 20 years ago we wanted to be as good as USC. As terrible as they are, we are still trying. :(

against Stanford's Offense of late you don't need a great defense, maybe only a marginal one will do just fine and dandy.

You are correct. Riley will be observing, but Donte Williams will be the HC on Saturday.

Just saw that UCLA picked up Spencer Rattler. Interesting twist. Riley benches Rattler mid-season in favor of Caleb Williams; Riley leaves for USC; Rattler enters the portal and goes to Riley's LA rival to play against his former coach.
