Yes, I tend to agree with this assessment.  After an entire season, my take on the best 4 teams is: Georgia, Alabama, Michigan and tOSU.  I think all four would maul Cincy and ND.  Baylor is missing its starting QB and is maybe top ten in the best case.

tOSU?  Both Oregon and Michigan ran for 250-300 yards on them. Oregon, it turns out, is not very good, and they were without Thibodeaux at the time.   I think you are overvaluing tOSU's wins over decent but actually not very good B1G teams.  

I agree that Georgia and Alabama would probably maul the rest.

Regardless of that fact, I disagree that Alabama should be in the Playoff with a loss today.  It's just a personal opinion, but I don't like that a team with two losses can get a second crack at the champs of their conference.  As long as we're limited to four spots, the CCGs ought to be seen as a quarterfinal.

Fundamentally, I agree with you.  Regardless of overall stature, if Alabama loses to Georgia today, then they should be excluded on principal.  However, the eye-test tells me that Bama is one of the top 4 teams overall.  If that's how the committee assesses the CFP participants, then they might be in despite two losses.  Ohio State is better now than the team that played Oregon.  And if the Buckeyes are not in the top four, who is?  Cincy, ND?  Certainly not OK State or Baylor after today's showing.  Odd as it sounds, Utah could be a contender based on current performance.  But that is out of the question now.
Cincy up 35-13.  Looks like the Bearcats are in.

Watching the SEC title game, one thought comes to mind….

Will Lincoln Riley be able to shut down the pipeline of talent from southern California to other parts of the country?  USC could use a guy like Bryce Young.

Yes, indeed.  And Bama may end up being the #1 seed with Georgia at #3 behind Michigan (if the Wolverines win).  Cincy appears to be in as #4.  This could only get messy if Michigan loses.  Then we might see Bama, Georgia, Cincy and ND, in that order.  And that could end up producing a rematch of Bama and Georgia in the NC game.  Certainly not ideal.

38-24 after a Georgia score.  It ain't over yet, but Georgia needs to catch fire in the final 11 minutes.

That should do it.  Alabama and Georgia should be in the CFP, as will Cinci, and, if it wins, Michigan.

I will root for Harbaugh and the Wolverines, but I’m guessing it will be an all-SEC final.

Of all non-SEC teams, I think Michigan has the best shot at being competitive vs. Bama and Georgia.  If the Wolverines win tonight, they will most likely face Georgia.  And the way the Bulldogs looked tonight, I think Michigan could beat them and face off against Bama in the NC game.

That's the kind of food a region needs to gobble down to produce a few 340lb DTs.    Sure health problems will be devastating for the entire group when they get into their 30s, but it should produce a few big guys that can move quickly when then are 21 to get into the state football team, errr....university, into the CFP.

My assumption is Riley will be in the SEC by 2025 and Stanford, Oregon, Washington and UCLA can help by showing him that in the Pac-12 even the best team is really unlikely to finish undefeated like one might see in the SEC.

The Baylor NG looked healthier than one on a West Coast team. And they weighed about the same.

I was kind of hoping that Harbaugh would face the Domers and let the two Kraken edge guys sack the Domers ten times.

Took a lot of ridicule for loving Mac Jones last season and during the run up to the draft. Bryce Young is no Mac Jones. . . .

Have you ever lived in the South? This is a h u g e step up from many of the traditional home recipes. Had the pleasure of celebrating Christmas at a factory in the Deep Deep South; as I wandered the various manufacturing cells with a union steward as my "guide", he recommended: "Try that, try that, don't try that, don't even think about trying that. . . ." A wonderful experience!

Not the deep south, but I did a summer internship at a law firm in Lexington Kentucky.  There was certainly more fast food restaurants than I was used to living in California.  It's no wonder America has one of the highest levels of obesity in the world.

cal is actually favored by 4.5.  Weird.

This game has to break records for the lowest viewership ever on FS1.  I'm almost tempted to tune in just to enjoy seeing cal and SC suck. It might be the last chance to see the Toejams stinking up the turf.

Michigan was actually unranked in the pre-season AP poll. Not sure how often a team with such modest (external) expectations has made the CFP.

42-3 final.

12-1 only loss they actually outplayed MSU, they have a legitimate argument to be the #1 seed.
