-m.

Send me a PM with more specifics about what you want, and I'll see if I can find the items to adjust.

The new title banner is very 70s retro.  Groovy!

That's true. I like it a lot.

I was going for bold and clean with hints of SI, but OK.

I thought SI. :)

RE: New board look? - CompSci87 - 12-29-2021

Is it intentional that the logo isn't the same red as the red areas in the rest of the page design?

Is either of them the official Stanford Cardinal red? See https://identity.stanford.edu/design-elements/color/primary-colors/

RE: New board look? - admin - 12-29-2021

I used #8c1515 for the logo and the board.

Strange, I guess it's an optical illusion that the logo looks like a lighter shade to me.

Same here. It doesn't seem as dark as the red on the border of the messages.

Part of it at least is that the logo has blurred edges, presumably caused by compression (though I see it's a png, not jpeg), and/or anti-aliasing from resizing. So along the edges a little white is blended into the red. The other red elements on the site have sharp edges with little or no anti-aliasing.

In addition to the new look the Cardboard symbol has changed on my IPAD. Geometric but then I barely got through Analytic Geometry, taught at SI by an ex-Belgian fighter pilot who would rather talk about attacking rebels in the Congo than trying to explain tangents.

Just going off on a tangent wasn't good enough?

It sure as Hell beat trying to follow something that I couldn’t possibly understand. However athletes had our Jesuit principal in our corner who took care of our GPA. BTW, the fighting in the Congo was pretty vicious even from the air.

RE: New board look? - CompSci87 - 01-01-2022

It turns out the logo *was* slightly the wrong color, due to some errant gamma correction.

I've done a quick fix to correct the color, but there is now a minor font issue that Yvonne or I might correct later. See if you can spot it.

Also, the favicon needs some work. The new one ("C" in a squarish talk balloon) is still in the slightly wrong color.

Besides that, I still see either the old favicon or a generic T in a red circle on some of my devices, but that may be some browser issue with the favicon being cached when it shouldn't be. Edit: In fact it's a well known issue discussed in places like https://stackoverflow.com/questions/2208933/how-do-i-force-a-favicon-refresh.

The Board looks awesome, thanks to you and everyone else who has worked on the new look.

Thank you to all who work on the site.  I was fine with slight color variation but I am somewhat colorblind.  Nonetheless, You all are doing a great job!  Thank you so much.

Cheers,
Pete F.

On my Mac using Firefox, if I take a PNG screenshot, and look at it with gimp (ubuntu vm), keeping the monitor-specific embedded profile, the title and the inter-message bars match (RGB: 113,35,27) but do not match the color at GoStanford (109,33,24).  If I convert to sRGB, the CardBoard color is 145,23,26 while the GoStanford color is 140,20,22.  (I'm not suggesting one or the other is wrong.  Just that they are different.)

Font issue?  Well, the "C" favicon is a different font that the title font.  It looks more like the block "S" used for Stanford.  I wouldn't call that an issue.

RE: New board look? - CompSci87 - 01-02-2022

I don't really know what happens if you have a color profile that causes gamma adjustment to occur. The fix we made was to have the logo specify the same 24-bit RGB color as the bars and not specify a gamma or chromaticity value. On my default Linux setup with either Firefox or Chrome, both are displayed as exactly the specified RGB value #8c1515 that https://identity.stanford.edu/design-elements/color/primary-colors/ says to use.

If there is still gamma adjustment or other color correction in other setups, hopefully at least the logo and bar colors don't diverge.

RE: New board look? - BostonCard - 01-02-2022

I don’t know if this is what you meant in terms of unfinished business, but I just noted that on my phone, the logo is much larger than the screen width, so all that fits in the screen is “[the]Card”
