We lead 67-43 heading into the fourth quarter. Offensively, after a slow start to the second half, we finished with 21 points. Even though Brink was forced to the bench with two fouls, we kept going. This time, it was Jones and Belibi who kept up the pace.

Defensively, we again held the Beavers to nine points. They turned the ball over another six times in the quarter and their red-hot shooting to start the game has continued to cool off, down to 42% overall and 39% from long range.

Fabulous game for Hannah Jump and Fran Belibi. They sure look like starters. And another nice performance by Iriafen.

We had only 6 turnovers as a team--that is great, but Oregon State never provokes a lot of turnovers. Not their defensive style.

We convincingly out rebounded OSU, and OSU is an excellent rebounding team. The 12 O-boards were excellent.

Going 11/12 free throws was another strong point.

We took 14 more shots than OSU. O-boards and turnovers gave us the edge there.

All in all, a strong game, except for the bench during the last 5 minutes.

We win 82-59 as the fourth quarter was largely a formality. The big lead allowed Tara to start the quarter with just two starters and then completely turn it over to the bench and then empty it over midway through. It's good to have the bench players get good minutes in and give the starters a rest, especially with two more games in the next five days.

We had five double digit scorers, led by Jump's 19 (5/12 from 3-pt range) with Belibi at 16 points (7/11 FG%) and Brink & Lexie with 12 & 11 respectively combining for an efficient 9/14 shooting.

Iriafen came in late, but made her presence known especially early on in the fourth, scoring 10 points in just nine minutes. It's so refreshing to see a freshman post player come in so early and is already so polished under the basket. She continues to impress; I know she's not getting many minutes right now, but with Belibi and Prechtel seniors next year and Brink as a junior, she's going to get her time.

Defensively, even though OSU scored 16 points in the fourth, it was largely in the last few minutes when the game was already decided with our substitutes in, so we played very well defensively from the second quarter on. Mack who had 11 points in the first quarter did not score again until well into the fourth quarter. We were also helped with Von Oelhoffen only playing 14 minutes; the commentators mentioned she wasn't at 100% and therefore only saw limited playing action.

Oregon State also had 17 turnovers while we took care of the ball well, just coughing it up six times.

All in all, it was another good performance; what was needed on a Wednesday afternoon, heading into the final few weeks of the regular season with an eye towards the postseason. We got the victory, expanded the lead so we can rest and protect our starters and key players and our bench got experience.

Yea, I think that's why Tara subbed back in Iriafen late with only a couple minutes. You can tell those five haven't had much time together, as they seemed hesitant and content with just moving the ball around, instead of being aggressive.

So much to love this game. Besides what others have mentioned: Lacie was very good again. Nice to see Agnes E-N back. We adjusted well to how the game was being called and clamped down on D after the first quarter, without too many fouls.

Aside from some poor defense on their shooters in the first quarter this was a well played game. We did let OSU shoot too high a percentage, especially from three, but that was mostly first quarter and as mentioned above, the last 4 or 5 minutes of the game. I loved the Brink-Belibi show. they played well together. Jump is back to her usual shooting ways, great to see. Iriafen was great in her minutes. Jones was quiet but efficient in her return. too bad Van Gytenbeek was out. Anyone know what that was about? I did not see her on the bench but I was only looking for those in uniform. If she was not dressed, maybe I just missed her? Not sure which is better, not dressed and there or not there due to COVID protocols.

Felt like OSU did some nice things today, especially shooting in the first. But we took 'em down anyway. The ladies are really putting it together. Random thoughts:

- How about the start to the game? Cam, low post move, bucket. Cam, mid range J, bucket. Cam, dribble right, bucket. P12POY.
- Haley does so many great things for the team. She was our leading rebounder tonight. Even though she has her turnover moments, she is incredibly valuable.
- Hannah, like all great shooters, forgets about her misses and just keeps firing it. I loved what the announcer said: "You know tomorrow is Thursday and you know Hannah Jump will start making 3's." (or something to that effect). Although I do wonder after she started 1 for her first 5 if Jana would've been subbed in at some point. It's a tough call because it isn't easy to come in cold and start shooting and Jump has proven that she might miss a few before she gets into the flow of things.
- Lacie continues to shoot it well from 3 and is getting more aggressive with the ball. We will need her or Anna to put some points on the board as the better teams will take away some of our first options.
- Fran has really improved her low block moves and her passing. With her athleticism, she's playing herself into a spot in the WNBA.

I know it's been mentioned, but it's worth taking note of. Five players in double digets and none of them named Jones or Lacie Hull. This is a team that is very difficult to game plan a defense for since there are so many people who can and will step up.

It might have been COVID. In the post game interview, Tara mentioned how Haley and Hanna had been out with COVID, and immediately after that said Jana is out this week. She didn't say COVID again and might not have meant to suggest that it was, but it sounded that way.

Worth keeping in mind that we will play OSU again, in Corvallis, and it is likely they will have a fully healthy TVO then. They will be capable of putting together 4 first quarter performances under those circumstances. I hope this relatively easy win does not inspire over confidence for the next time we play them.

I’m curious as to what folks think of the 1Q. Seems like everything was going fine, under control….until it wasn’t.

Obviously they got hot and our D took a while to figure things out—not too many other explanations for giving up 25 pts. What else did folks see?

Kind of underscores the point that even a team that’s .500 in conference play can go off on you at any time.

I was hoping Elena Bosgana would do well. This is the first time I've seen her play for Stanford. Unfortunately she didn't look good IMO. It's understandable with little if any playing time and coming on the court with a make-shift Stanford lineup. Hopefully she gets another chance in the next blowout win.

I too have been waiting for Bosgana to start to look comfortable and let the game come to her. Early in the year it seemed as if she was a bit of a black hole: the ball went to her and never came back out. The fact that she is 0-9 from three has not helped her confidence, though she has looked good on her drives. The last couple of times I've seen her, she seems more relaxed and in the mode to do whatever she can to help the team rather than immediately trying to impose her offense on the team. Her defense also seems to be improving. Clearly she has a high basketball IQ and now I think you are going to see more of it. I don't know who she usually matches up against in practice, but this must be a steep learning curve for her practicing largely against (I'm guessing here) the Hulls, Hannah and Agnes.

I think the raw material is there, but it might take one of those classic frosh-soph jumps before we start to see what she is truly capable of.

For me, Oregon State over the last few years has been a very streaky team, highly dependent on how well they shoot the ball. When they shoot it well, like they did in the first quarter yesterday, they are a very dangerous squad and can put up points as well as anyone. The long line of shooters that has come through Corvallis from Wiese to Pivec to Goodman to Von Oelhoffen underscores the plethora of highly skilled guards and wings that can score in bunches from long range.

However, if a team can shut down their shooting and/if they go cold, then they are more vulnerable as their inside game is not as deep. Yes, they have had Gulich and Hamblin in the past, but if you can get them in foul trouble, then they don't really have too much depth in their post game that you have to really be too concerned with.

As a result, the loss of Taylor Jones is really significant for them IMO, leaving Kennedy Brown as their only real threat inside. They have Mitrovic, but she's not a consistent scoring presence yet.

I think their recruiting class coming in next year will address this weakness as their two top-10 recruits Gardiner and Beers are forwards who look like they have good post scoring skills. With Jones presumedly healthy again, I think they will be a much more well-rounded team next year.

If anyone heard Scott Rueck on postgame radio, he lamented that he didn't really understand why OSU had to play a Wednesday game at Stanford leaving his team only 1 day to prepare for their rival Oregon this weekend. I don't think VonOehloffen was hurt at all. Once the game started to get away from them, he sat her in the second half presumably to keep her rested for this upcoming weekend.

We've lost 3 recruits to them the past 2 recruiting years: VonOelhoffen visited Stanford and had us as a finalist as well as Kampschroeder, and Gardiner. We are the better program and team. I guess if playing a ton of minutes as a freshman is a priority, one may choose them. Rueck has never impressed me but they did have a few really good years not too long ago.

I give Rueck a ton of credit for taking a program that was in total disarray (most players left the program) due to the previous coach and made the program very competitive and has done it with less resources ($$$ there is no Nike/Knight at OSU) than Graves has at OU.

The truth is that the make up games and fast turnaround do not hurt all teams equally. Those teams like OSU that depend upon detailed scouting reports and practicing many game-specific offensive plays have a much harder time than those that play a looser style. In a typical year, it would hurt us a lot more than most of our opponents, but we have so much deep talent this year that we seem to do ok with it. I do think lack of prep hurt us badly against South Florida. For Rueck and OSU it is a disaster since so much of what that team does depends upon situational planning and practicing to implement those new game-by-game plays and defense.

I am not sure I like Rueck very much as a sportsman, but he is the coach in the Pac 12 whose coaching philosophy is most closely aligned with Tara's.
