I think the NCAA result was pretty indicative of how Stanford played all season. They were a top 20 team and 2nd or 3rd best in the P12. But there was a big gap between Stanford and the top 8. The team never really got anything going.

However Michael Thorbjornsen is one of the 6 low scorers not on a top 15 team so he will be playing tomorrow's 4th round. He's in the next to last group, starting on the 10th hole at 12:12.

It looks like the final will be ASU vs Texas.

So Texas will have a chance for their fourth NCAA team title of the year.

Between golf, their softball team in the CWS, and their two track squads, the Longhorns have a chance to equal or even exceed our record of 6 NCAA team titles in one year.

Here are all the instances of 4 or more titles in an academic year:

Total Titles School Year

6 Stanford 1996-97
6 Stanford 2018-19

5 UCLA 1981-82
5 Stanford 1991-92
5 Stanford 1994-95
5 Stanford 1997-98

4 USC 1962-63
4 UCLA 1969-70
4 UCLA 1970-71
4 UCLA 1971-72
4 UCLA 1983-84
4 Stanford 1985-86
4 Texas 1985-86
4 Stanford 1986-87
4 Stanford 1992-93
4 Stanford 1993-94
4 Arkansas 1993-94
4 Georgia 1998-99
4 UCLA 1999-2000
4 UCLA 2000-01
4 Stanford 2001-02
4 UCLA 2002-03
4 UCLA 2003-04

I can't speak to their other sports, and sure, UT softball is one of eight teams with a chance to win the national championship in OKC, but I will be stunned if Texas wins the softball national championship this year. Aside from maybe Arizona, I think they are the weakest team left in the field at the WCWS.

For those keeping track at home, Texas has won men's indoor track, women's tennis and women's rowing so far.

Back the Pac12 I guess. I will always root for a Pac12 team or a west coast team.

Sigh, Texas with the MGOLF title.
