+1,000. Bumgarner was a terrific pitcher during the regular season. In the postseason, against the best players in the world, he was like something out of a video game. 8-3 with a 2.11 in the postseason, but 4-0 with a 0.25 ERA in the World Series (lowest of any pitcher with at least 25 innings pitched in the World Series) and a 0.528 WHIP. In 2014, Bumgarner's postseason ERA was 1.01, the lowest postseason ERA ever with at least 40 postseason innings pitched. Bum averaged almost eight innings in his six postseason starts, then of course the five innings in relief -- two days after 117 pitches in game 5. It was only the third five-inning save in any professional baseball game, regular or postseason, in the past 25 years. It was more than an inning longer than any save recorded in any World Series. First player to record two wins, a shutout and a save in one World Series.
BTW, Madbum is leading the league in starts this year. He's 3-7, went 7-10 last year and 1-4 the year before that. But his ERA's down to 3.75.

Flew through a horrendous rainstorm to Fayetteville to interview Holtz in his Stadium office at about 10pm decades ago. There was almost no place to set lights and camera because there were stacks of scouting reports, game plans, etc everywhere. He was going to play Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl and the Sooners were ranked #1. He said that they were huuuuge underdogs but “we’re going to beat them up.” I think the Hogs won 31-7.
He gave us all UA coaching polos. Loved him.

Curry is one of the all-time greats on offense, but his defense is suspect and for that reason I just can't put him on the same pedestal.

Curry has become a solid defender. He’s only 6’3. And he’s not blindingly quick. But he’s smart. He’s gained weight so he’s tougher. Has good hands.
He is also a darn good rebounder.

Agreed he's much-improved. But a good year doesn't make him an all-time great, and he's not on anybody's All-Defense Team.
All I'm saying is I don't put him on that pedestal with the all-time greats - yet.

Stanford
Brad Muster vs. UCLA 1986 at the Rose Bowl. Muster had 24 carries and 159 yards in the 1st half. Finished with 183 yards on 38 carries. Best RB performance I saw pre-Gerhart/McCaffrey/Love. Gaston Green had 140 yards himself for UCLA. This was a great game on a gorgeous day in Pasadena.
Non-Stanford
Jake Arrieta no-hit the Dodgers in 2015. Among all of the MLB games I have attended starting at the age of 5, this is the only no hitter I have seen in person. It was pretty memorable.
Ah, yes, that game at UCLA in 1986. If I remember correctly, UCLA had one last chance to score to take the lead late in the game. Gaston Green got a handoff on fourth down, took a hit from a Stanford defender, got knocked back a few steps, but regathered himself to move forward. Luckily, that missed tackle gave about three other Stanford defenders time to gang tackle him to stop him short of the first down and effectively end the game.

I think he got hit initially by a soph linebacker which stopped his momentum.
A UCLA nose tackle slapped the ball from the Stanford center but a ref saw it and negated a fumble recovery on the last victory formation play.
