WWBD?
I doubt Bernie has a plan for this, at all.

You can thank Cal and Stanford too, for allowing their football and MBB programs to stagnate. It wasn't all Larry Scott's fault. He had bosses too.
At least someone's happy about this. . . .

This is going to have a lot of ripple effects. I'm guessing we just lost our voting block that was opposed to adding schools like Boise.

Arizona schools and Stanford and Cal into the Mountain West. That makes 16 teams. Then there is a reason to drop some sports. Or go to FCS and the Big Sky and drop some sports. Stanford will still get its share of smart players and won't have to beg entry into an Idiocy League. And actually compete for a real national championship.
Going independent makes no sense.
Without the LA market most highly rated recruits aren't going to the renaming schools.
It may be time to not care anymore. Go Niners.

I thought the PAC12, Big 10 and ACC recently has a verbal agreement to not poach schools within these 3 conferences. I guess such agreement means nothing $$$$$$$$$ is involve

At this point, I am principally interested in knowing what this does to WBB and all the non-revenue sports. Is this football-only?
So many Stanford athletes come from So Cal that I can't think this will be good at all for our recruitment. Playing regularly down there in front of those recruits and a very large alumni base is a boon.
What will the Rose Bowl do?

That was my first thought. I recall the three conference commissioners including the B1G commissioner taking the "moral high ground". So much for that. It's all about money. This is a real bummer for me. Despite all the drawbacks of the PAC-12 network IMO its WVB programming was the best TV coverage of an Olympic sport for someone subscribing to all network regions.
B1G has vastly pulled ahead of PAC-12 in WVB. This conference restructuring may have a big impact on recruiting by Stanford in SoCal, still considered a hotbed for prep vb. Although I suspect all the dominoes will eventually fall and by 2030 there won't be any Pac-12/10/8/6/4/2.

Why would the Big 10 schools want to do this? Every school added to the conference dilutes the share of the tv money that the legacy schools receive.
The B10 must believe (perhaps because some investment bankers and/or consultants are telling them so) that the value of an expanded conference will increase by enough in their next broadcasting rights negotiation to offset the dilution from the added schools.
And the remaining P12 schools will be much less valuable for their upcoming rights negotiations after losing approx 20 million potential audience members in Southern California. I don't think that the P12 is a feasible entity without USC or UCLA.

but also a real hardship for the students to fly cross country twice during a school week. you basically have to leave a day earlier to get from here to the midwest/east coast. minneapolis is non-stop 4 1/2 hours but penn state is 2 flights and 9 hours total (each way)
even most pro leagues have geographic divisions (presumably) to cut down on travel.
another example of thinking $ rather than students.
they would all take no-stop charter flights and maybe do what some NFL teams do when they have back-to-back games in the midwest/east coast and stay the week back there, of course the students would just dial in for their classes....

I believe the B1G's current deal is up at the end of 2022/2023, so this will have immediate impact into their negotiations.

I am sure the Regents have input on anything they want to have input about. Maybe they are willing to go along with it, because absent that I really don't see how UCLA can make such a policy decision on their own. Obviously, this affects not only UCLA but UCB as well. Can't imagine that is nugatory. Impact on student-athletes may be the excuse, but obviously there are other forces in play.

Without the SoCal viewership market, TV deals will plummet with the Pac-TEN.
What will Oregon and Wash do?
To make up for losing both LA schools, we would be forced to join the Big12 and pick up Texas (plead on our knees) as a football media market.
UTex, OKLA, plus OKST, Baylor, TCU, TXTC would be SIX plus TEN. And a 16 Team league with two divisions could draw enough TV Revenue.
Call it the...
Great West Conf. maybe?
[Not P1G].
The pitch to UTEX and OKLA could be a much higher likelihood of Conf Crowns in a Great West than in SEC or B1G.

The Rose Bowl will bend with the times. People will want to see Ohio State/Alabama and Michigan/Georgia. Probably soon USC/Clemson. SC, with Riley, has escalated the arms race. UCLA had to go along.
Wonder about Oregon in all this. A watered down Pac can't co-exist with their NC dreams. They have to move along. But where?

So it's basically Mickey Mouse's league (The SEC) and Rupert Murdoch's (Fox) telling schools what to do.
So f-ing disgusting, but looks like Cal and Stanford are on the wish list, along with Oregon and Washington.

I think selling the addition of the LA market goes down a lot easier for existing Big 10 members than adding UW and Oregon (or Stanford and Kal) to further dilute those TV revenues.
Plus, then they'd be outright killing the Pac, while this can be spun as more of a grave wound.
Maybe over the longterm the Big 10 adds more schools, but I suspect they are done for now (unless ND wants to join).
RE: End of Pac12? -
Canalejas - 06-30-2022
It makes sense that beach volleyball is excluded. The only Big Ten member that sponsors the sport is Nebraska.
The LA schools could ask to become associate members of the WCC, Big West, or maybe try to start beach volleyball in the MPSF (along with Boise, Grand Canyon, and San José State.) Perhaps by bringing along their Big Ten buddies from Lincoln.
