Fixed it for you. 10's of thousands of student-athletes really are students first. It's they who this fiasco is going to hurt. Who knows, maybe even some of them play football or hoops, too.

Room, board, books and tuition....somewhere between $200-$300K....maybe more. That's payment. If you don't like the transaction, get a job out of high school. Nothing wrong with learning a trade.

++ on this CI.  I could even be persuaded to offer a small $3-$5K stipend per year per athlete for spending money on top of the scholarship amounts.  The arms race needs to stop or this is all going to implode.  It's already happening with NIL payments from some schools.   The pendulum has swung over too far and I'm hopeful we will see it swing back in a few years, probably after yet another major scandal...likely from this weekend's opponent.

USC is the poster child for "lack of institutional control" and that's not just in athletics.   Let's beat the Sooner/Trojans, please....Come to think of it, that combo sounds like a possible ED problem or at least some fodder for the LSJUMB!

You're right...a stipend for whatever but no million-dollar contracts (are you listening, Caleb?) plus we get rid of some of the stupid little nitpicking NCAA rules that made people crazy.

The issue is that no one involved: not the students, not the schools, not the conferences, not the NCAA, and certainly not the coaches, behaves as if they are getting a quarter million dollar education. Given that no one values the education student athletes get, it’s no wonder that they are left to want more.

Totally agree. I do however assert that the conferences and the NCAA are merely reflections of the schools. They have no "free will".
