Me too, but I don't want him to fail completely. I want him to be Heltonesque enough to stay there and be just effective enough they don't fire him. If they keep shuffling coaches, eventually they will find the guy. We want to make that process as lengthy as possible. Of course, after next year we may not care?
I want him to fail miserably. Want SC and it’s band of mercenaries to fail even more. But I doubt either is going to happen.
The Condoms may not fail this year or the next year but give them time and they will screw up someway shape or form, will get caught and will be the Big 10's problem child and will provide the NCAA a justification to remain involved in college football by slapping sanctions on the Condoms. The other college football power brokers (SEC, Delusional Domers and the 'U') will be only too very happy to see the Hollywood Boys get jail time.

Interestingly, the rest of the cast who played students in that film are still alive, except for Stork (Doug Kenney) who passed just two years after the filming of Animal House.
What happened to Sarah Holcomb remains one of the great mysteries, too. She, like D-Day, whereabouts unknown. . . .
Sarah is really a pretty sad story. She was very young and got messed up on drugs due to her association with the hard partying crowd filming Animal House. Very unfortunate.
I went down this internet rabbit hole one weekend afternoon, when I realized that she had roles in both Animal House and Caddyshack. From what I read, she was basically Brian Doyle-Murray's girlfriend, and partied way too hard. She was 19 when Animal House was filmed in 1977. She now lives a quiet life in Connecticut. For a time, she was on government assistance, I don't know if she still is.

Hard to judge either Stanford or USC based on what they did last Saturday. It was their first games of the season and the games were against Colgate and Rice. I would also note that it looks like Rice had their backup QB in the game starting in the second quarter, and three of USC’s touchdowns were pick sixes (two off the Rice backup QB).
I think Scott Wolfe does a good job of looking at the strengths and weaknesses of the Trojans. He brings a certain amount of salt to what is otherwise generally a giant hype machine surrounding the program. Here is his latest view based on what he saw in the Rice game. Sounds like the Trojans haven’t necessarily changed much since the Helton era, which is good news for Stanford. I don’t know if we will beat them this year, but stranger things have happened.

My view is that this game is a toss-up, one team could get hot and make it a runaway game.
Neither team had dominating line play, either OL or DL.
I am sure both teams have many unanswered questions on what to expect from their respective teams.
I think Stanford will be more physical than the condoms, especially on defense. The condoms are front runners, if things don't go well they have in the past just end up going through the motions.

Honest question to which I don't know the answer: to the extent one has made sociological observations about USC over time (e.g., they're front runners and wilt under adversity), how much does that hold in an era in which captains are transfers from Oklahoma and Alabama (hardly suspect football cultures)?

I don't pretend to know the answer either. One question to be asked is why did those captains leave their previous schools? I suspect the answer is because it benefited them in some way, not because they always wanted to "Fight On". That kind of impacts their "team first" credibility. In the past, it has been difficult for any coach at SC to instill discipline. Carroll did it by convincing his players he could take them to the promised land and then did it. The minute the players don't believe that, it becomes every man for himself. How Riley will approach this issue is TBD. I am pretty sure what worked at Oklahoma will not work at USC.

As the prime-time game on ABC Saturday, the game will be called by Rece Davis and Kirk Herbstreit.
They will be flying out from Austin, where they will be doing College Game Day Saturday morning.
Alabama at Texas is the Fox Big Noon Game.
