I would hesitate to call out the Large Dog from the Northwest. I believe his knowledge about Stanford football trumps just about everybody here.

Have you not noticed the number of batted balls that the six six QB has thrown?

Winflop echoes what one of the announcers said Saturday about a players committee imploring Lance to get more aggressive. Just what a former Stanford player has been bitching about since Mason left.

Unlikely. He can't run. He has zero feel for the pocket and pass rush. He throws low enough over the middle nose tackles routinely knock down or tip the ball.

IMHO, he lacks that sixth sense which makes good quarterbacks amazing and fun to watch.

Good points. I also think the Slow Garbage™ plays against his strength.

I hadn’t heard that. I turned sound off after one of the announcers said Michael Wilson was one of the most talented players in Stanford history.

That's where I heard it - about 3 or 4 times during the game. And I had the game on in the background while I was doing other things, which is how I plan to watch if I even do

I think Kyu Kelly said the same thing in an interview with Troy C. He also gave credit to the coaches for being open minded and listening. Shows a great deal of maturity and respect on both sides IMO. McGill apparently led the group voicing frustration about wanting a more attacking defense.

Another comment that I’m sure will endear many to the Pac12 network commentator, he said that Shaw is one of the best in the business managing the clock.

Regarding his comments on Mike Wilson, I know it’s a bit of what-if-ism, but he has always looked to me as worthy of one of the most talented descriptor. Same feeling I had watching Ty Montgomery in the past. Injuries suck and have been unkind to him, but I still hope he has a bit more to say on the football field. FWLIW, I don’t know if I buy into the injury prone descriptors as being objective, Davis Mills was dismissed here many times on similar grounds.

I think Wilson has improved to the point of having a chance to be drafted. "Among the best" is an LOL. Burford, Tony Hill, Lofton, Margerum, Walters, Vataha, McColl, Ertz et al. Wilson is a nice player but not in that class.

DeRonnie Pitts; not fast but a great route runner with outstanding hands.
Mike Tolliver; very fluid and excellent feel for getting open
Emile Harry; fast, fluid made running pass patterns look effortless
Bob Blunt; fast every after his knee injury, great running instincts due to the fact he played running back his first couple of years, did not play in a great passing offense.

Doug Baldwin had a really good senior year and his pro career was one of the best for any Stanford player. Where does that place him?

I guess the question on Wilson is whether they said one of the best or one of the one most talented.
Pitts was one of the best ever for Stanford in terms of production, but I would say Wilson had considerably more talent

It's getting tiresome castigating the slo mesh...but the criticism is well earned. Cameraman, it's alot harder to pass over the DL extended arms when you are right next to them. I haven't gone back to review, but my sense is that the OL is ok on pass pro when in a traditional set. For the life of me, I can't understand why we don't play to McKee's strengths. If we continue the slo with Robinson and Barrow, we deserve what we get. Fwiw, I agree with whomever said we should insert Daniels at rb. If he's good enuf to run out of the wildcat, he's good enuf to play rb. And, he has more heft for passpro than Robinson and Barrow.

Jimmy sets in a regular pocket and he has a high percentage of DL blocked throws. Does the Wake QB have a problem with DL hands and arms running the slosh (slow mesh)? They are far more successful with it. I don't know.

A 6'6" QB should never have trouble with passes blocked at the line no matter how deep in the pocket he is. McKee is an enigma. Some throws are gorgeous, too many are ruptured ducks. He needs better coaching than Stanford is providing.

Certainly not in the Slow-Mesh. I just can’t understand why. They don’t have the personnel. If they had a Bryce Love type - a home run hitter - than perhaps it makes some sense. Certainly that would draw attention, hold the linebackers etc. Without that threat, why worry about the run? So, what happens is it gets crowded (which I believe is a factor in the batted balls) there isn’t much of a pocket and he doesn’t have time to throw downfield.

Wilson might have been special. Unfortunately didn’t get the opportunity as he was derailed by injuries. One of my many pet peeves is the over hypin* that constantly comes from the broadcast booth. There was a pitch and catch for ASU early on. Nice throw and catch, no question. But the announcer raved about the “tremendous “ catch. It’s over the top. It’s constant And to me, it ruins the broadcast.
