If anyone does, you may want  to find a way to mute the audio so it doesn't get recorded or at least remove the audio before posting.   You may not want to have to watch what you say.

Unfortunately, I am not tech savvy.  Hopefully there will be someone (who goes) who is.

I found an announcement of the tournament.
C and R  blog on the games.
The box score for the tournament (with no TV (nor radio, IIRC)) shows an attendance of 100.

I personally get suspicious at the funding of such a tournament with no particular source of income. Even if the teams pay to play (plus their expenses), it can't be that profitable.   I can imagine the hotel not charging for rooms and then writing the (inflated) cost of rooms as a write-off.

(Speaking of hotel room cost, I just stayed at a Days Inn in the Pasadena area, with rooms in the $130 range.  But the price listed on the back of the door was $799.  Rose Bowl price or way-beyond-even Rose Bowl price?)

The price on the door is an umbrella price, the maximum the hotel will charge for that room. No idea if this is a legal requirement or corporate policy.

No need to mute the audio. It will be replaced with the game call.

I have wondered about this same question with any number of these.  Sometimes they don't make money.  Remember the one in Vancouver that got cancelled until they scrambled to fine a gym in Victoria at the last minute?  We played Vic Schaeffer's Mississippi State team, I think, the year before he abandoned them to move to Texas.  But that one almost did not come off.

I suspect this one is done by U Hawaii, because travel costs are exorbitant for Hawaii athletics and they can use the lure of the islands to get more games at home.  This is the second WBB tournament in 2 weeks for them, after all.

Others seem to be done by resorts and hotels to try to get tourists to come at slack times.  For them, TV is a detriment.

But I'd love to hear from people who really know how all these weekend tournaments are financed.

You’re on to something. The opportunity cost of not hosting the tournaments is the price of one or two trips to the mainland. Airfare alone makes that expensive. Plus west to east travel screws up your body clock more than east to west. No idea how the costs pencil out, but the possibilities are becoming clear. Esp if the visiting teams pay their own expenses.

RE: WBB: Rainbow Wahine Showdown - BostonCard - 11-23-2022

Agree it makes sense for Hawaii to host a tournament. Many schools won’t fly out to Hawaii for a home and home, but if they can fly out for a tournament and play three games, two of which will be neutral site games, it makes a lot more sense, especially if there is an opportunity for at least a little team bonding.

Well, actually we won't "see" any of them apparently.

Great question.  Whoever is going, we need you to post your summaries and write-ups here, since those of us stranded on the mainland can't watch ;(

You are correct re Spectrum..I’m in Dallas and have Spectrum but the Stanford game is behind a paywall without instructions to pierce it,

RE: WBB: Rainbow Wahine Showdown - crackpot - 11-24-2022

Got momentarily excited when looking at the ESPN+ schedule for Saturday and saw Stanford listed. That is, until my eyes cleared and saw they are showing Stamford.

Looks like it is here. Came up when I logged in to ESPN+

RE: WBB: Rainbow Wahine Showdown - 81alum - 11-25-2022

Stanford vs. FGCU begins

The audio broadcast is going to start at 1:45.  Hopefully there will be an interview with Tara and we will find out a little more about this game an tournament before they tip off.

Nothing but ambient sounds so far.  I was hoping they had taken Kevin Danna to do a broadcast.  Livestats shows no feed so far, so no starting lineups.  Not exactly a smooth production so far.  There is still time.

I am no longer even getting the ambient sounds.

RE: WBB: Rainbow Wahine Showdown - martyup - 11-25-2022

Me too, nada.

RE: WBB: Rainbow Wahine Showdown - 81alum - 11-25-2022

Well, no video, no audio, and no stats with 3 minutes to go.  Not looking promising.

Livestats came up.  Usual starters.

RE: WBB: Rainbow Wahine Showdown - martyup - 11-25-2022

I did discover that tonight on KZSU you can listen to:

SOUL STREET with THE VOICE OF SOUL at 8:00 pm. A DEEP DIVE INTO THE INTO THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF SOUL MUSIC, FROM BOOGALOO TO BALLADS, DANCE TO FUNK, FEATURING ARTIST PROFILES AND BIRTHDAY TRIBUTES

Now that sounds fun.

While we are waiting, I noticed that today we are in 8th place in the Pac-12 in WBB.

RE: WBB: Rainbow Wahine Showdown - 81alum - 11-25-2022

Game has started and still no audio.  FGC already hit a trey.  2-3.

If anyone figures out how to get an audio broadcast please post.

RE: WBB: Rainbow Wahine Showdown - martyup - 11-25-2022

Umm, can someone guard #42?

RE: WBB: Rainbow Wahine Showdown - 81alum - 11-25-2022

FGCU is shooting 62% and we are shooting 30%.  Not a fast start for us.

RE: WBB: Rainbow Wahine Showdown - martyup - 11-25-2022

I prefer this audio to Bill Walton.

RE: WBB: Rainbow Wahine Showdown - mbdude - 11-25-2022

Don't understand why Nnopu is taking 3s

RE: WBB: Rainbow Wahine Showdown - 81alum - 11-25-2022

Terribly frustrating that they did have a live audio feed, I could hear ambient sounds, and then it was shut down before the game started.  I even heard someone tapping on the mike to test it.

RE: WBB: Rainbow Wahine Showdown - crackpot - 11-25-2022

Finally working

RE: WBB: Rainbow Wahine Showdown - 81alum - 11-25-2022

Audio is ON with Tim Schwarz now.
