The man has allowed both revenue sports on the men’s side to crater in terms of results, fan enthusiasm and any sort of entertainment value.  Throw in varsity blues, growing expenses and the ill fated cutting of 11 sports and I can’t understand how the man still has a job

Yikes, not even that close of a game; Utah beat Arizona 81-66; the Utes were up 42-25 at the half.

At least we should be able to beat Cal.  They are winless (0-9) with losses to UC Davis and UC San Diego (not even USD).

We cut the lead to 11 with under 6 to play

Now we only trail by 8 with 4:23 to play.

1/5 (20%) from he field; 0/4 (0.0%) from 3; 0 free throws, 1 rebound, 2 turnovers and 2 points.

Well, at least he can tweet a good game, can't he?

(obviously the complete context is missing, since there was Disney stuff in there, as I recall, which got scrubbed away.  But anyway....)

RE: Isn't there a basketball game on now - BostonCard - 12-01-2022

UCLA is turtling; they've scored 2 points in the last 8 minutes.

Nice to have cut the lead to 8, but maybe if we hadn't spotted UCLA 17 before our first 2 points... (which does mean that we've outscored UCLA 58-49 since then)

Ingram is just not producing.  The two Jones are playing hard.

RE: Isn't there a basketball game on now - BostonCard - 12-01-2022

Sweet mercy it is over.  80-66 is the final, but this is a game where we were down 17-0 after 5 minutes and never recovered.  UCLA is ranked, but the degree of futility in this team is dispiriting.

I'm just so disappointed in Muir in the case of men's basketball, a sport which I thought he would have shown special insight.

At least the team cut the lead to eight points for a bit.  The kids didn't give up at that point, it seems.

We may struggle to even be mediocre this year.

At least we fought back after getting blown out early to make it something of a game.

RE: Isn't there a basketball game on now - Phogge - 12-02-2022

Muir was on the committee when I was shooting Final Fours. Nice, quiet guy. Somebody once said the all marriages should be dissolved after 10 years. He’s outlived his shelf life.

RE: Isn't there a basketball game on now - Treebound - 12-02-2022

I was at the game last night.  The team looked like deer in the headlights for the first 10 minutes.   I will give credit to them for mounting a comeback and really playing hard in the second half.    Keefe had a strong game against some very physical, handsy/fouling bigs from UCLA.   Raynaud, at 7'1" was not good, physical or helpful last night.  He needs to toughen up with some "French rage."

If this team can bring the second half level of intensity and play, they may win some quality games.  If they don't pick up their game soon, then kiss any hopes of the Dance good-bye.  Harrison and Haase need to step it up...2 points?!

As for UCLA, Tiger and Jaquez are a clear level above.  They should get to the Sweet 16 again.

RE: Isn't there a basketball game on now - fullmetal - 12-02-2022

You'd think by now all the upperclassmen would know what kind of intensity it takes to hang with a team like UCLA.  If they were unprepared...that's on the coaches.

RE: Isn't there a basketball game on now - BostonCard - 12-02-2022

I asked GPT-3 to write a post about Haase:

Quote:FIRE HAASE NOW!!!

I can't take it anymore, this man is ruining our beloved Stanford basketball program. His mediocre coaching and inability to field a competitive team is unacceptable. I don't care how new he is to the program, he needs to go.

I've had enough of watching our team lose game after game. It's time for a change and that change is getting rid of Haase. We need a coach who can lead us back to the top of the Pac-12 and make us a national powerhouse again.

I don't care what anyone else says, I know I'm right. Haase is the problem and it's time for him to go. FIRE HIM NOW!!!

#FireHaase #StanfordBasketball #Pac12Basketball

Definitely channeling some members of the cardboard.

It’s all Dawkins’ fault…

No it's Bush's fault.

I've already reached the same point with MBB that I reached with football after the loss to Washington St. Not worth my time much less my money. I went to see them live against SDSU with free tickets and I watched them on TV once after that. That was enough to see that this team isn't materially different from every other Haase team.

The longer this coach hangs around, the less seriously anyone should take the position that this A.D. is serious about the "prominence" of MBB -- and why I hope to hell his role in replacing Shaw is simply to rubber stamp what knowledgeable people recommend (assuming that the search committee can be knowledgeable). Haase "has" to be one of the poorest gets a Stanford team has ever gotten.

Haase was good hire coming in. He'd taken a mid-major team from oblivion to a NCAA berth in four seasons and there was every reason to believe he could do the same at Stanford. It didn't work out that way.

Much as I won't blame Muir at all for the hire, I will blast him for not firing him at least a year ago if not two years ago.
